Job description

We are seeking a dependable and detail-oriented

Accounting Assistant

to support our accounting and administrative functions. This is an entry-level position focused primarily on data entry, recordkeeping, and routine accounting tasks performed under the direction and supervision of accounting staff.

This position does not require a college degree or extensive accounting experience. We are looking for someone who is organized, accurate, comfortable working with numbers and computer systems, and willing to learn. Previous experience with accounting, bookkeeping, office administration, or data entry is a plus but not required.

10-15 hours per week are expected for this position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Enter accounting and financial information accurately into company systems.

  • Assist with accounts payable and accounts receivable data entry and recordkeeping.

  • Enter and maintain invoices, purchase information, payments, and other financial records.

  • Review entered information for accuracy and completeness.

  • Assist with matching invoices, purchase orders, receipts, and other supporting documentation.

  • Organize, scan, file, and maintain accounting and business records.

  • Assist accounting staff with routine reconciliations and other basic accounting tasks.

  • Research simple discrepancies and bring questions or unusual items to the appropriate accounting staff member.

  • Prepare spreadsheets, reports, and other documents as requested.

  • Assist with maintaining accurate vendor and customer information.

  • Perform other accounting, clerical, and administrative duties as assigned.

  • Maintain confidentiality of company, employee, customer, and financial information.

Qualifications

Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Basic computer skills and ability to learn new software.

  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and email.

  • Ability to perform accurate data entry.

  • Basic math skills and comfort working with numbers.
