Job description

Essential Functions:
  • Provides technical support and assists in training of maintenance and production personnel.
  • Coordinates electrical activities for the hot end, coatings, cold end, facilities at the Ottawa site. Optimize efficiency and cost to ensure production is not impeded. Ensure maintenance costs are maintained. Manages, evaluates and implements appropriate projects that improves production costs, value, quality, and safety.
  • Continually works with engineering staff at the plant and technical center level to improve existing designs reducing manufacturing costs.
  • Investigates, provides consultation, and analyze problems related to electrical supply, computer technologies and control systems. Results are implemented for process and machine control. Provides engineering solutions to program new or modify existing computer software. The end results are cost reductions, process improvements, and better user-friendliness.
  • Performs assignments (normal, special, & emergency) as directed by the Maintenance & Engineering Group Leader. Provides the plant with complete professional services through use of engineering and maintenance teams.
  • When working as an individual or as a team member, capable of providing integrated solutions to any anticipated, actual technical, or business-related production problems.
  • Maintains proficiency in CAD and document control as applied to electrical drawings of machinery throughout the plant. Ensures that CAD drawings of the plant electrical system and machinery are accurate and current. Continually updates CAD drawings as changes are made. Access originals from the Pilkington Technical group.
  • Interface with the plant safety to ensure that electrical safety is integrated into new and modified designs.
  • Provides supervision of contractors or plant personnel installing or modifying equipment per engineering changes.
  • Adherence to values and principles found in the NSG/Pilkington Standards of Business Conduct.
  • Other duties as assigned by manager.

Scope/Dimensions:
  • Coordinates electrical activities.
  • Maintains ongoing communication within engineering group and other departments to ensure team interaction.
  • Stays current with trends and design developments that are being implemented by Pilkington Technical/Engineering personnel. Provides appropriate feedback as it relates to the plant operation.
  • Maintains a complete and thorough knowledge of program activities related to production, quality, accounting, and material management.
  • Maintains working relationships with contract services for project improvements and maintenance services.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of current technical and professional developments in the related fields. This is accomplished by reviewing information and participating in technical groups including attending applicable seminars.

Salary range: $78,108.00 to $97,639.00

Qualifications Required:
  • Must have a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Must be able to read electrical schematics and relay ladder schematics.
  • Must have CAD proficiency and document organization skills.
  • Must be able to program and troubleshoot programmable logic controller relay ladder logic programs and electrical systems. Desired having experience in programming BASIC and C software languages. Related experience in other software languages is helpful.
  • Should have experience designing electrical circuits and system for use in industrial control. Should understand the OSHA Standards and NEC Code requirements. Demonstrate a working knowledge of how these requirements should be applied to electrical designs.
  • Should understand high voltage circuits (above 480 volts) and power feeds. Needs an understanding of safety issues related to such circuits.
  • Needs to have good communication and people skills. Requires demonstrated excellent problem-solving skill.

  • The associate occasionally must travel by commercial means or private transport.
