Job description

Accounting Specialist


Snyder Environmental Services is seeking an experienced Accounting Specialist to support the Chief Financial Officer with daily accounting operations. This position is ideal for someone with construction accounting and full-cycle payroll processing experience who is detail-oriented, organized, and thrives in a fast-paced environment.


Responsibilities

  • Prepare and file Sales & Use Tax returns.
  • Maintain job costing and equipment cost records.
  • Manage accounts receivable, collections, and aging reports.
  • Maintain fixed assets and depreciation schedules.
  • Perform general ledger reconciliations and assist with month-end close.
  • Ensure compliance with fringe benefit requirements, business licenses, permits, tax filings, and other regulatory reporting obligations.
  • Assist in preparing year-end reports, tax filings, audit schedules, and other annual financial reporting requirements.
  • Support the CFO with financial reporting, budgeting, and other accounting functions as assigned.
  • Independently manage and process full-cycle weekly payroll from initial payroll creation through final completion and submission. This is not a timecard-review-only position.
  • Take ownership of the entire payroll process, including payroll setup and creation, employee payroll data, time entry and verification, earnings, overtime, deductions, benefits, garnishments, taxes, fringe benefits, payroll adjustments, final payroll review, processing, and completion.
  • Verify payroll calculations and resolve discrepancies before payroll is finalized.
  • Process and reconcile federal, state, and local payroll tax liabilities and required filings.
  • Prepare and process certified payroll reports and maintain required supporting documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with prevailing wage and applicable fringe benefit requirements.
  • Research and resolve employee payroll questions and discrepancies.
  • Maintain accurate payroll records and assist with quarter-end and year-end payroll reporting and reconciliations.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of five (5) years of accounting experience, preferably in construction.
  • Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business preferred, but not required.
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience independently creating and processing full-cycle payroll from beginning to completion is required.
  • Candidates should have experience with:
    • Full-cycle payroll creation and processing from start to finish
    • Weekly payroll processing
    • Payroll taxes and reconciliations
    • Certified payroll
    • Prevailing wage and fringe benefit requirements

    • Sales & Use Tax
