Job description

Celebrating 85 Years of Building With Purpose

At Absher Construction, we're proud to celebrate over 85 years as one of the Pacific Northwest's most respected general contractors. As a 100% employee-owned company, we believe our people are our greatest asset and we invest in them like it!  From fully paid medical premiums for employees, to a generous PTO policy, 401(k) and ESOP retirement benefits, we offer a total rewards package that reflects the pride and ownership we bring to every project.

At Absher Construction, we're looking for an Accounting Assistant to join our Accounting team in Puyallup.

This is a great opportunity for someone early in their accounting career who enjoys detailed work, learns new systems quickly, and wants the opportunity to grow. You'll support several areas of our Accounting department, including payroll, accounts payable, reconciliations, and certified payroll compliance, while building the foundation to eventually develop into a Project Accountant role.

You don't need to know every system or process on day one. We're looking for someone who is organized, comfortable with technology, willing to learn, and knows when to dig into a problem and when to ask questions.

What You'll Do
  • Assist with reviewing, processing, and preparing vendor and credit card invoices for payment
  • Reconcile vendor and credit card statements and assist with other account reconciliations
  • Research invoice discrepancies, missing documentation, and vendor payment questions
  • Prepare and submit certified payroll reporting through Washington State Labor & Industries (L&I) and LCPtracker
  • Maintain prevailing wage rates and related payroll and compliance information
  • Help collect and maintain vendor and subcontractor compliance documentation
  • Maintain accurate and organized electronic accounting and compliance records
  • Support Payroll, Accounts Payable, and Project Accounting with day-to-day needs and special projects
  • Assist with department administrative responsibilities as needed
  • Take on additional accounting responsibilities as your knowledge and experience grow
What We're Looking For
  • 1–3 years of accounts payable, data entry, administrative accounting, or related experience
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Excel and comfort learning new technology
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accurate work
  • Ability to stay organized and manage recurring deadlines
  • Ability to work independently while communicating questions or issues proactively
  • Flexible, team-oriented approach and willingness to help where needed
  • Interest in learning and growing within the Accounting field
Nice to Have
  • Experience in the construction industry
  • Familiarity with Viewpoint/Vista or other accounting software
  • Experience with LCPtracker, Washington State L&I systems, B2Gnow, or similar compliance systems
  • Exposure to prevailing wage or certified payroll requirements

Prior construction accounting or certified payroll experience is helpful, but it is not required. We're interested in someone with strong foundational skills, good judgment, and the ability to learn.

Where This Role Can Go

Our goal is for the Accounting Assistant to develop a broad understanding of Absher's accounting processes while supporting different areas of the department. As you build your skills and knowledge, this position can provide a path into a Project Accountant role with increased responsibility for the financial side of our construction projects.

Physical Requirements

This position is primarily performed in an office environment and involves frequent computer use and sitting, along with walking, standing, bending, and reaching. The position may occasionally require lifting items up to 25 pounds and visiting active jobsites while following applicable safety requirements.

Absher is a Federal Contractor. All job offers are contingent upon satisfactory completion of a pre-employment background check and drug screen.
