Job description

Job Summary

The Asset Protection & Compliance Specialist is responsible for protecting company assets by managing business licensing and regulatory compliance, investigating losses, assist in conducting store audits, and strengthening internal controls. This role partners with Operations to reduce risk, improve accountability, and support compliance across all store locations.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Regulatory Compliance

  • Renew all company business licenses and permits on time using the licensing management system
  • Monitor that all licenses and permits remain active and in good standing
  • Research licensing requirements for new and existing store locations
  • Build positive working relationships with state and local licensing agencies
  • Stay current on changes to licensing laws and regulatory requirements
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation to support compliance efforts

Asset Protection

  • Review CCTV footage, POS exception reporting, and operational data to identify theft, fraud, policy violations, and other risks
  • Investigate cash shortages, inventory discrepancies, fuel variances, and other operational losses.
  • Analyze shrink trends and recommend practical solutions that improve accountability and reduce losses
  • Assist in conducting routine asset protection and operational audits at store locations
  • Assist with investigations involving theft, fraud, policy violations, and other incidents while maintaining complete and confidential documentation
  • Identify opportunities to reduce internal and external theft through proactive monitoring and investigation

Reporting & Administrative Support

  • Prepare reports related to audits, investigations, shrink, compliance, and operational trends
  • Maintain organized investigative files and compliance records
  • Recommend improvements that strengthen internal controls and reduce financial risk
  • Assist the Accounting department with compliance-related projects, reporting, and administrative responsibilities as assigned
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the Accounting and Operations teams

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Required

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify trends, investigate operational issues, and recommend practical solutions
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • High level of integrity, professionalism, and discretion when handling confidential or sensitive information
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to build positive working relationships across departments
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and Outlook
  • Valid driver's license with the ability to travel to company locations as business needs require

Preferred

  • One to two years of experience in retail, asset protection, accounting, auditing, compliance, or a related field
  • Experience conducting audits, investigations, or operational reviews in a retail or convenience store environment
  • Experience with business licensing or regulatory compliance
  • Working knowledge of POS systems, CCTV platforms, exception-based reporting, licensing management software, or other asset protection tools
  • Experience analyzing cash, inventory, or fuel variances
  • Knowledge of retail operations and loss prevention best practices

Work Environment & Travel

  • Office-based role with some travel as needed
  • Work in retail settings, including fuel stations and food service areas

Physical Demands
