Due to continued growth, we're seeking an exceptional Assistant Controller to take ownership of a multifamily portfolio and play a key role in strengthening our financial operations as we scale.


About the Role

The Assistant Controller will manage full-cycle accounting for a multifamily (non-HOA) property portfolio, ensuring reporting accuracy, operational efficiency, and alignment with property stakeholders. You'll be responsible for month-end close, budget inputs, reconciliations, and owner-facing reporting. The ideal candidate combines deep accounting experience with the ability to scale workflows, communicate clearly, and take ownership with minimal supervision.


This role will also lead a team of 4-7 accountants, providing guidance, training, and oversight to ensure timely and accurate reporting.


The Assistant Controller will work on-site out of our corporate headquarters in the heart of Orlando's vibrant Milk District!

SALARY: $90,000 - $105,000 annual salary + bonus eligibleย 

Salary is commensurate with experience and portfolio complexity


SCHEDULE: Full Time, Monday thru Friday 8:30am - 5:30pm


LOCATION: Atrium Management Company, 201 S Bumby Ave. Orlando, FLย 

Office-based Requirement: Candidates must be available to work from the above office Monday thru Friday.


Key Responsibilities

Portfolio Financial Ownership:

  • Own full-cycle accounting for a multifamily portfolio
  • Serve as primary financial contact for property owners and internal stakeholders
  • Present complete property financial performance and respond to complex inquiriesย 

Month-End Close & Reporting:

  • Lead month-end close, including journal entries, accruals, and reconciliationsย 
  • Prepare and deliver monthly financial packages (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow, rent roll, and variance analysis)ย 
  • Ensure accuracy, timeliness, and compliance across all reportingย 

Operational Accounting:

  • Oversee bank/credit card reconciliations, AP/AR coordination, and GL maintenanceย 
  • Validate rent rolls, track collections, and monitor property-level performanceย 
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysisย 

Process Improvement & Collaboration:

  • Identify and implement process improvements and reporting efficienciesย 
  • Help develop SOPs and scalable accounting workflowsย 
  • Partner cross-functionally with operations and leadership

Requirements
  • 5+ years of accounting experience, including a minimum of 3 years in non-HOA multifamily property accounting
  • Strong expertise in accrual accounting, month-end close, and property-level financials
  • Experience with platforms such as AppFolio, Yardi, Buildium, Caliber or similar
  • Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, data organization)
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize deadlines, and manage multiple properties
  • Strong communication skills with experience presenting financials to non-finance stakeholders

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related fieldย 
  • Experience preparing financial reports, communicating complex financial data, and providing clear explanations to non-finance stakeholders, including property owners or asset managers
  • Background in process improvement, SOP development, or system optimizationย 
  • Bi-lingual (English & Spanish) is a plus!
