Department Manager - Building Products - Base Salary to 130k/year - Conroe, TX

  • Our client is a well-established organization within the building materials industry serving customers throughout North America. The company has built a strong reputation through strategic supplier partnerships, exceptional customer service, and continued growth within the forest products market. They are seeking a Department Manager to lead an established team responsible for sales growth, customer and supplier relationships, and overall business performance. This is a hands-on leadership position combining team management, strategic planning, business development, and direct account responsibility.
Responsibilities:
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of sales, trading, and product professionals
  • Drive sales growth and profitability within the forest products division
  • Develop and execute business development and market growth strategies
  • Manage departmental budgets, forecasting, and performance metrics
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, suppliers, mills, distributors, and industry partners
  • Maintain a portfolio of strategic customer accounts
  • Analyze market trends, commodity pricing, and business performance to identify growth opportunities
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to support company objectives and department success
Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of experience within the forest products, lumber, building materials, wood products, wholesale distribution, or commodity building products industry, required
  • 2+ years of leadership or management experience leading sales, trading, product management, purchasing, or commercial teams
  • Proven experience buying and/or selling commodity lumber, plywood, OSB (oriented strand board), panels, engineered wood products, or related forest products
  • Experience managing customer relationships, supplier partnerships, and revenue growth
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to analyze market trends, commodity pricing, forecasting, and financial performance
  • Demonstrated success developing business, growing accounts, and implementing strategic initiatives
