What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an account development associate, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Account Development Associate, you need strong communication, lead generation, and sales prospecting skills, typically supported by a bachelor's degree in business or a related field. Familiarity with CRM software such as Salesforce and proficiency in using sales automation and lead-tracking tools are essential. Outstanding interpersonal skills, resilience, and a proactive attitude help you build relationships and overcome objections. These skills and qualities are crucial for consistently generating qualified leads and contributing to the success of the sales team.

What is an account development associate?

An Account Development Associate is a sales professional responsible for identifying and qualifying potential business opportunities and leads for their company. They typically work closely with the sales and marketing teams to research prospects, initiate contact, and nurture relationships to create qualified sales opportunities. Their goal is to help drive revenue growth by building a strong pipeline of potential clients for account executives or sales managers to pursue. This role often involves a mix of phone outreach, email communication, and use of CRM tools to track interactions and progress.

Job description

Our Client:
AR Business Brokers is a leading firm specializing in the sales and acquisition of small to mid-sized businesses across the Greater Toronto Area. They provide expert valuation, marketing, and negotiation services, helping entrepreneurs achieve their exit strategies and buyers find their next venture. They are committed to integrity, professionalism, and delivering outstanding results for their clients.

The Opportunity
You are the first point of contact for entrepreneurs and business owners considering the most significant financial event of their lives: buying or selling their company. Your goal isn't to close a deal, but to build enough rapport and curiosity to schedule a discovery consultation with one of the Senior Business Brokers. Over 80% will be warm leads. Consistency is key to appointments and ultimately closed transactions. This is dynamic position combining elements of account management and call centre discipline.

Location: Mississauga, Ontario (In Person Only)
Base Salary: $40,000-$45,000
Realistic Commission/Bonus: $20,000-$35,000
Employment Type: Full-Time | Monday to Friday, 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM

Key Responsibilities
  • Qualifying Leads: Engaging in high-level conversations to understand an owner's "why", discussing the company's services, and identifying if their business meets the valuation criteria.
  • Consultative Setting: Overcoming common objections regarding market timing, confidentiality, and valuation.
  • CRM Management: Maintaining an accurate pipeline of prospective sellers and ensuring seamless hand-offs to the Brokerage team.
  • Strategic Prospecting: Working inbound leads (80%), but also outbound outreach to business owners within specific industries and revenue brackets.
  • Conduct high-volume lead outreach through outbound calling and email campaigns to prospective business owners in the GTA and across Canada. (80% warm)
  • Meet and exceed monthly targets for calls, qualified leads, and booked appointments.
  • Maintain strict schedule adherence.

Requirements
  • 2+ years of experience in a similar, scheduler, or call centre role, preferably in a B2B environment, is a strong asset.
  • Proven track record of meeting or exceeding activity quotas and sales deliverables is key.
  • Strong English communication and active listening skills with the ability to articulate complex concepts over the phone clearly is a must.
  • Proficiency with CRM software (e.g., Pipedrive) is an asset, but training will be provided.
  • Business background preferred (e.g. sales, accounting, general business knowledge)
  • Self-motivated and diligent - able to make repeated calls and treat leads as individual projects.
  • Comfortable working fully in-office with set expectations/targets.
  • Strong note-taking and organizational skills to relay context effectively.

Benefits
  • Competitive base salary for a similar role.
  • Performance-based incentives based on booked appointments and successful deals.
  • Opportunities for professional development and career advancement into a Broker role.
