Accessibility Engineer Remote information

What is an accessibility engineer?

Accessibility Engineers are professionals who ensure that websites, applications, and digital products are usable by people with disabilities. They design, test, and implement solutions that comply with accessibility standards such as the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and legal requirements like the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Working remotely, they collaborate with designers, developers, and project managers to identify barriers and recommend improvements. Their goal is to create inclusive digital experiences for all users.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an accessibility engineer remote?

To thrive as an Accessibility Engineer (Remote), you need expertise in web accessibility standards (such as WCAG), front-end development skills (HTML, CSS, JavaScript), and familiarity with assistive technologies, often supported by a related degree or certifications like IAAP CPACC. Proficiency with accessibility testing tools (like Axe, WAVE, or JAWS), code repositories, and issue tracking systems is commonly required. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication are vital soft skills for collaborating with distributed teams and advocating for accessible solutions. These skills are crucial for ensuring digital products are usable by everyone, meeting legal requirements, and promoting inclusivity.

What are some common challenges faced by accessibility engineers working remotely, and how can they be addressed?

Accessibility Engineers working remotely often face challenges such as ensuring effective communication with cross-functional teams and maintaining up-to-date knowledge of accessibility standards. Collaborating virtually may require proactive outreach to designers, developers, and QA teams to review and remediate accessibility issues. Utilizing collaborative tools, scheduling regular check-ins, and participating in online accessibility communities can help overcome these challenges and ensure that products meet accessibility requirements.

Both roles are vital for creating inclusive digital experiences, with overlapping skills but different primary responsibilities.

How much do accessibility engineers make?

Accessibility engineers typically earn between $70,000 and $120,000 annually, depending on experience, location, and industry. Senior roles or those with specialized skills in assistive technologies or compliance standards like WCAG may command higher salaries. Remote positions often offer competitive pay aligned with industry standards.

Job description

Description
As our Senior Web Designer, you will lead Tithely's website design and conversion rate optimization (CRO) efforts to create digital experiences that help churches discover the tools they need to grow and sustain their ministry. By combining exceptional web design with continuous experimentation and data-driven optimization, you'll improve customer acquisition, increase free-to-paid conversion, and help more churches benefit from technology that enables them to simply serve.

Primary Responsibilities of the Role
  • Own the strategy and execution of Tithely's conversion rate optimization (CRO) program across the marketing website and signup funnels.
  • Develop and prioritize a roadmap of experiments using analytics, customer research, heatmaps, and session recordings.
  • Design, build, and analyze A/B tests using VWO, including custom JavaScript and CSS when needed.
  • Define experiment success metrics, evaluate statistical significance, and document learnings that improve future performance.
  • Continuously improve website conversion, free trial activation, and free-to-paid conversion.
  • Design responsive landing pages, product pages, pricing pages, signup flows, and campaign experiences that balance visual excellence with measurable business outcomes.
  • Build and maintain scalable design systems in Figma using components, variants, Auto Layout, and design tokens.
  • Ensure consistency across branding, typography, accessibility, and responsive breakpoints.
  • Build and launch pages in Webflow, Unbounce, and future website platforms as our technology stack evolves.
  • Own website conversion performance and regularly report progress against growth objectives.
  • Implement and validate tracking using Google Analytics 4 and Google Tag Manager.
  • Analyze user behavior, funnels, and conversion data to identify optimization opportunities.
  • Maintain strong Core Web Vitals, accessibility standards, and SEO best practices that support both user experience and organic acquisition.
  • Partner closely with Growth Marketing, Product Marketing, Marketing Operations, Product, and Engineering to deliver high-performing web experiences.
  • Manage external agency relationships when needed for design, development, or analytics initiatives.
  • Collaborate with Marketing Operations to ensure accurate forms, tracking, CRM integrations, and lead routing.

Qualifications
A Successful Candidate Will:
  • Be Action Oriented by consistently turning insights into experiments and measurable improvements that drive business results.
  • Demonstrate Decision Quality by making sound decisions based on data, customer behavior, and experimentation rather than assumptions.
  • Drives Results by taking ownership of conversion goals and continuously improves website performance through disciplined optimization.
  • Be a Nimble Learner who learns quickly through experimentation and applies insights from both successful and unsuccessful tests.
  • Manage Complexity by connecting data from multiple sources to identify opportunities and prioritize the highest-impact work.
  • Collaborate through building strong partnerships across marketing, product, engineering, and external partners to achieve shared goals.
Required Technical Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of experience designing and optimizing high-performing marketing websites for SaaS or B2B organizations.
  • Demonstrated success improving conversion rates through experimentation, supported by a portfolio with measurable business results.
  • Experience designing and analyzing A/B tests using VWO or a similar experimentation platform.
  • Strong experience with Google Analytics 4, Google Tag Manager, and conversion tracking.
  • Advanced proficiency in Figma, including design systems, components, variants, and responsive design.
  • Experience building marketing pages in Webflow or similar CMS platforms.
  • Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and basic JavaScript.
  • Familiarity with HubSpot forms, landing pages, and marketing integrations.
Preferred Technical Qualifications:
  •  Experience working within product-led growth (PLG) or self-service SaaS environments.
  • Experience with JavaScript for customizing and troubleshooting website experiments.
  • Experience supporting high-growth B2B SaaS organizations.
  • Familiarity with AI-powered design, research, or CRO tools.
  • Experience within fintech, nonprofit technology, faith-based organizations, or other mission-driven software companies.
Office Requirements:
  • We are a fully distributed team (100% remote) with travel sometimes required 1-2 times per year.
  • A stable work environment with designated workspace and access to high-speed internet.
  • US-based and legally able to work full time in the US. Sponsorships are not available at this time.
