About our Department:

The mission of Public Transportation is to provide safe, efficient, and customer friendly transit services to citizens and guests of the community. The City of Huntsville's 19 Access vehicles are radio dispatched and ADA accessible. Access is a specialized, door-to-door, demand-response paratransit service.

Paratransit Operator Position Overview:

This is skilled work in the operation of a paratransit vehicle for the transportation of persons with disabilities and/or the elderly throughout the city limits as assigned. Work involves responsibility for driving a 15 passenger modified van, transporting passengers in a safe, courteous and professional manner and providing assistance to persons with mobility impairments to and from the vehicle. Work also involves responsibility for conducting daily vehicle inspections, performing basic record keeping duties, collecting fares from customers and providing information.

Qualifications and Necessary Special Requirements:

High school diploma from a school accredited by a regional accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or GED certificate issued by the appropriate state agency and experience in driving large vehicles and transporting the public; or any combination of education, training and experience.

Valid Class D Driver's License

This position requires maintaining an excellent Motor Vehicle Record as set annually by the Liability Insurance Company.
