Position Summary Information
Job Description Summary
The Student Faculty Support Assistant provides administrative and academic support to faculty within the Department of Chemistry. 
This position assists with course-related tasks, grading support, and general office operations while helping ensure an organized and efficient learning environment. The student employee will work closely with faculty members and gain valuable experience in academic and departmental administration.
Responsibilities
  • Assist faculty with grading quizzes, assignments, and other course-related materials according to instructor guidelines.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student records, grades, and academic information.
  • Provide general office and administrative support to faculty members.
  • Assist with data entry, document preparation, filing, copying, and organization of departmental materials.
  • Help organize course materials and instructional resources as needed.
  • Monitor and respond to routine faculty requests in a timely and professional manner.
  • Support departmental projects and special assignments as directed.
  • Perform other administrative and academic support duties as assigned.

  • This position will cover both sections of ENV 310/L (lecture and lab).
  • Maximum number of hours per week: 3
Required Qualifications
  • Current Chapman University student in good academic standing.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.
  • Ability to learn departmental procedures and follow instructions accurately.
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
  • Dependable, responsible, and able to meet deadlines.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Desired Qualifications
  • Previous office, administrative, customer service, or student employment experience.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite and other common workplace technology tools.
  • Experience managing multiple tasks and priorities in a professional setting.
  • Strong problem-solving and organizational skills.
  • Interest in chemistry, higher education, or academic support services.
  • Experience working with faculty, staff, students, or in a team-based environment.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and departmental needs.

Training will be provided on departmental procedures, grading expectations, office operations, confidentiality requirements, and university systems as needed.
