Job description

Job Title: Academic Services Office Assistant

Department: Academic Services Center - Peer Assisted Learning Services

Supervisor: Dr. Craig Curty

Starting Rate of Pay: $7.25

Length of Time: Eligible for rehire on a semester basis.

The mission of the High Point University Office of Academic Services is to support the academic progress, success, and retention of undergraduate students by offering varied educational programs, activities, and services in a certified, supportive learning environment.

Job Description

The Front Desk Student Worker serves as the first point of contact for students, staff, and visitors. This position supports the daily operations of the Academic Services office by providing excellent customer service, answering inquiries, and assisting with various clerical and administrative tasks.

The candidate will perform most/all job duties on the 4th floor of Smith Library at the receptionist's desk.

Job Location /Hours Required The candidates will primarily perform their duties at the receptionist desk located on the 4th floor of Smith Library. Work hours may vary depending on departmental needs. The position offers approximately 5 hours per week, scheduled Monday through Thursday, with occasional hours on Friday as needed.

Responsibilities:

Answer and direct incoming phone calls to the appropriate staff member or department in a courteous and efficient manner.

Serve as the first point of contact by professionally greeting students, staff, and visitors. Escort individuals to the appropriate department or location as needed.

Submit campus enhancement (maintenance) tickets for broken or malfunctioning equipment and facilities. Post appropriate signage, such as "Out of Order," as needed.

Create and update digital slides for office television. Ensure all content is submitted for review and approved prior to publishing.

Learn the layout and functions of departments located on the 4th floor to better assist guests and answer inquiries.

Check the first-floor mailroom regularly for packages and incoming mail.

Track and document supplies that need to be replenished. Submit requests for approval before orders are placed.

Stay alert and attentive while stationed at the front desk. Use of headphones and excessive phone usage during shifts is not permitted.

Provide support during Admissions-related events such as Open House and Orientation, including set-up and logistical coordination.

Ensure the front desk area, lobby, and brochure racks are always tidy and presentable. Restock as needed.

Uphold all HPU and Academic Services professional policies.

Required Qualifications:

Must be a current HPU student in good academic standing.

Excellent communication and customer service skills.

Demonstrates reliability and a strong sense of responsibility.

Collaboration and proactive communication skills

Desired Skills:

Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher.

Excellent customer service and verbal communication skills.

Proficient in basic computer applications, including Microsoft Office and/or Google Workspace.

Must possess good organizational skills.

Must possess a positive work ethic.
