Job description
The University of Kansas is a leading research university in the United States with a strong tradition of academic excellence. Since 1909, the University of Kansas has been a member of the Association of American Universities, the premier consortium of research institutions in North America.
The University of Kansas School of Business offers undergraduate, master's (full-time and online) and doctoral programs. In recent years, the School has experienced remarkable growth with enrollment approaching 5,000 students. Growing the breadth and impact of entrepreneurship programming features prominently in KU's strategy. The School offers a robust set of entrepreneurship degree programs and coursework at the graduate and undergraduate level and has made significant investments in entrepreneurship co-curricular programming. In Fall 2027, KU will open the Entrepreneurship Hub (thehub.ku.edu), a new 29,600 square foot facility dedicated to supporting Jayhawk student entrepreneurs.
The School of Business is located on KU's main campus in Lawrence in Capitol Federal Hall, a modern instructional facility with advanced classrooms, offices, and student resources. Lawrence is located 35 miles west of Kansas City in the Kansas River valley. With about 100,000 residents, Lawrence combines a vibrant student population with a welcoming small-town atmosphere. The city features a nationally recognized live music scene, a historic downtown with local businesses, art galleries, microbreweries, restaurants, and museums showcasing art, natural history, and anthropology.
The Kansas City metropolitan area is a 40-minute drive from Lawrence and offers diverse dining, shopping, and professional, cultural, and sporting opportunities. Kansas City International Airport (MCI) offers flights to major U.S. cities and is less than an hour from Lawrence.
Duties:
40% Research: Develop and maintain an active scholarly research agenda in entrepreneurship and related fields. Conduct, disseminate, and publish high-quality research through peer-reviewed journals, scholarly presentations, and other appropriate academic outlets.
40% Teaching: Teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses in entrepreneurship and related disciplines. Contribute to student learning through instruction, mentoring, advising, curriculum development, and other educational activities that support the mission of the School of Business.
20% Service: Engage in service activities that support the area, school, university, profession, and broader community. Contribute through committee participation, professional engagement, outreach, student support activities, and other service contributions appropriate to rank and expertise.
,The University of Kansas School of Business seeks applicants for an open rank Professor in Entrepreneurship. The search is open at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor levels with an emphasis on Associate and Full Professors. Appointment at a particular level will be based on an applicant's scholarly and teaching record. The position is a full-time, academic year, tenure-track or tenured faculty beginning August 18, 2027.
This position will interact with students, faculty, the KU entrepreneurship ecosystem, and the broader international academic entrepreneurship community through research, teaching, and service. We encourage individuals who desire to make an impactful and sustained contribution to entrepreneurship, innovation, and related fields to apply and join a vibrant research community with Vince Barker, Chang Hoon Oh, Jun Ho Lee, Todd Hall, Lindsey Yonish, Jun Park, Clint Chadwick, Brian Anderson, Beth Embry, Kaushik Gala, Pat Downes, Nate Meikle, Patty Dahm, Niki den Nieuwenboer, and Jill Ellingson (Area Director). Management faculty routinely publish in top journals in strategy, entrepreneurship, international business, and management, serve as editors and on editorial boards, and supervise a robust doctoral program.
KU's excellence is a result of the rich tapestry of experiences, perspectives, and backgrounds of our faculty, staff, students, and colleagues from across our nation and the globe. At KU, we invest in continuous learning and growth by creating a climate where people engage in respectful dialogue and debate and support each other's success. We foster a culture of care where each person is seen, heard and valued. When people feel a true sense of belonging, we believe they are better able to reach their full potential and achieve remarkable things.
The successful candidate must be eligible to work in the U.S. by the effective date of the appointment. Any employment with the University of Kansas is contingent upon satisfactory completion of a background check.
This position is subject to a collective bargaining agreement between The University of Kansas and United Academics, that UAKU is the exclusive representative for the bargaining unit, and that it is their right to be a member or not be a member of a union without fear of personal or professional repercussions.
