Summary Statement
The Dean of Instruction, as the instructional leader of a Campus, is responsible for providing administrative oversight of academic programs, courses, faculty, and other areas that support instruction. The Dean ensures the quality of academic programming and services to support the success of students upon entering the workforce and/or transferring to a senior institution.
Nature and Scope
The Dean of Instruction reports to Vice President and Campus Director and, through the Collegewide matrix governance structure, the Vice President for Academic Affairs. Reporting into this position are Instructional Directors, Department Chairpersons, the Assistant Dean of Instruction, and administrative assistants. The Dean is responsible for the delivery of high quality general and developmental education, and career and transfer academic programs. Responsibility for ensuring implementation of best practices in instruction and adherence to middle states and program accreditation standards is an expectation as well. Additionally, the Dean is responsible for managing the availability and the quality of resources to support student learning including specialized labs, the library, tutoring, writing, and math centers. The Dean is responsible for administrative oversight for campus centers that provide learning opportunities for students and community services such as Child Development and Dental Health Centers. Typical contacts include the Campus Administrative Council, Vice President for Academic Affairs, Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs, , Information and Instructional Technology staff, and other Office of the President staff, Collegewide administrators, educational leaders, employers, and community leaders.
Principal Accountabilities
(An incumbent may perform any combination of the below listed accountabilities)
1. Provides administrative leadership for new academic program development, planning, implementation, and evaluation under the direction of the Vice President and Campus Director and/or the Vice President for Academic Affairs to ensure that new programs support labor market needs and offer quality preparation for successful employment and/or transfer.
2. Provides administrative oversight of existing academic programs and courses to ensure compliance with academic policies and guidelines regarding program review, program revision or discontinuance, curricular structure including Program Graduate and Core Curriculum Competencies, course development and syllabus construction, college readiness and course placement, academic standing, transfer of credit and advanced placement.
3. Collaborates with Vice President and/or Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs as well as the other Deans of Instruction to develop and implement policies, procedures, programs and services that foster excellence in teaching, quality distance education programs and courses, and the use of educational technology that strengthens teaching, learning and student success.
4. Provides administrative oversight of the planning, preparation, and allocation of the Instructional Division's financial resources and budget.
5. Ensures program alignment with Middle States accreditation standards, program accreditation standards, and higher education legislation and regulations.
6. Provides administrative oversight to ensure quality implementation of outcomes assessment. Provides administrative leadership for student success initiatives to increase college graduation rates and other measures of student success.
7. Provides administrative oversight to Department Chairpersons to ensure the scheduling of courses that foster student completion of academic programs.
8. Serves as a participating member of various campus and Collegewide committees and boards, and outside community and higher education forums to continue to develop the delivery of the highest level education service to the community.
9. Collaborates to develop partnerships with K-12 districts, senior higher education institutions, and other organizations to develop pathways that promote degree completion such as dual enrollment, advanced standing, tech prep articulations, and connected degrees.
10. Collaborates with other divisions of the College in the recruitment, advisement, retention, and graduation of students.
11. Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications
Doctoral degree in a relevant field and four (4) years of relevant management experience; or Master's degree in a relevant field and six (6) years of relevant management experience. Relevant management experience must include the management of people, projects or other initiatives. Experience working in higher education, particularly at the community college level, is preferred.
