General Summary
Perform a variety of instructional, research, editorial, and/or administrative support activities within the Department of English while enrolled as a graduate student. Specific duties vary by assignment and departmental need. Work is performed under the supervision of designated faculty or staff in classroom, office, and program settings and is intended to support departmental operations while providing professional development experience.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Assignments may include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Provide instructional support such as assisting with courses, leading discussion sections or workshops, grading assignments, maintaining course records, and meeting with students.
  • Serve as instructor of record for designated undergraduate courses, when assigned, including preparation of course materials, classroom instruction, and assessment of student work.
  • Assist faculty with research or scholarly activities including literature reviews, archival or bibliographic research, data collection, drafting, editing, or preparation of materials for publication or presentation.
  • Provide editorial or production support for departmental journals, publications, digital projects, or events.
  • Perform administrative or program support tasks such as scheduling, correspondence, document preparation, record keeping, and coordination of departmental activities.
  • Participate in meetings, training sessions, and professional development activities.
  • Perform related departmental duties, as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
Admission to and active enrollment in a graduate program in English.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students.
Preferred Qualifications:
Prior teaching, tutoring, research, editorial, or program support experience.
Familiarity with instructional technologies, office software, or digital tools relevant to academic work.
