Temple University's Center for Performing & Cinematic Arts is searching for an Academic Advisor II

Salary Range: $41,250 - $60,000

Position Summary:
The Academic Advisor II in the Center for Performing and Cinematic Arts (CPCA), working under limited guidance, advises students on appropriate academic schedule and long-term plans, choice of major, academic standing, utilization of appropriate resources, and interpretation and application of major, school/college, and university policies to their circumstances. Academic Advisor II, alongside other members of the advising team, is responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of extensive student records. Collaborates and partners with faculty in CPCA to discuss student concerns and implement changes in curricula and other requirements. Collaborates with other CPCA advising staff to disseminate academic related information. Along with entire advising team, develops and delivers outreach related to first-year student success initiatives within CPCA and the university.
The Academic Advisor II meets with students in individual or group settings, providing access to information and resources necessary for the achievement of academic, career and personal goals. Plays a critical leadership role in developing, implementing, and managing innovative projects designed to enhance student success. E ngage in a variety of activities designed to achieve, maintain, and improve student success and retention, and provide students with access to the information and resources necessary for the attainment of academic, professional, and personal goals. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education & Experience:
Master's degree and one and a half years of experience, including six months advising experience in an academic setting in higher education. Demonstrated experience in program development and implementation. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Required Skills & Abilities
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint).
  • Excellent organizational and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong customer service and diplomacy skills, along with the ability to effectively interact with a diverse population of students, faculty, and staff.
  • Ability to accurately complete detail-oriented, time-sensitive tasks in a high-pressure environment.
  • Strong writing skills and a high degree of proficiency in the use of correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others as part of a team.

Preferred:
  • Experience with Banner.
  • Experience with customized student database systems.
  • Experience working with post-secondary student populations.
    Experience working or studying in the performing and cinematic arts.
  • Knowledge of Temple University academic resources, policies, and curricula.
