Job Summary
The Advisor for Students in Transition provides specialized academic advising and support to students navigating significant academic and enrollment transitions, including transfer students, returning students, students changing majors, students on academic probation or suspension, and students redirecting from competitive or selective academic pathways. The position is responsible for delivering proactive, student-centered advising, coordinating intervention and retention efforts, developing individualized academic success plans, and connecting students to appropriate campus resources and support services. The Advisor collaborates with campus partners to support student persistence, engagement, and degree completion while assisting with transition programming, outreach initiatives, and student success efforts aligned with Augusta University's strategic priorities related to enrollment growth, retention, belonging, and holistic student support.
Responsibilities
Cross-Unit Collaboration
Collaborate with academic colleges, Enrollment and Student Affairs departments, faculty, and campus support offices to coordinate student support strategies and interventions. Work closely with the Coordinator for Training and Student Transitions and other advising staff to ensure consistent communication, referral processes, and service delivery. Participate in university committees, initiatives, and meetings related to student success, retention, enrollment, and academic support. Assist with collecting and reporting student engagement, retention, and transition data to support assessment and strategic planning efforts.
Relationship Management & Service Excellence
Build positive and supportive relationships with students, families, faculty, staff, and campus partners. Provide exceptional customer service while handling sensitive student concerns with professionalism, empathy, and confidentiality. Serve as a student advocate by helping students navigate institutional systems, processes, and challenges. Represent the Academic Advisement Center at campus events, orientations, open houses, and outreach activities.
Professional Development
Maintain current knowledge of advising best practices, retention strategies, student development theory, and university policies and procedures. Participate in professional development opportunities including trainings, workshops, conferences, and webinars related to advising, student success, and higher education administration. Engage in ongoing learning related to student populations in transition, academic recovery, and holistic student support. Contribute to a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, and student-centered service within the Academic Advisement Center.
Student Transition Advising and Support
Provide proactive, developmental academic advising and case management support to students navigating transition experiences, including dual enrolled students, transfer students, returning students, students changing majors, students on academic probation or suspension, and students redirecting from competitive or selective academic pathways. Assist students in developing individualized academic plans aligned with degree requirements, career goals, academic standing, and institutional policies. Support students in understanding university policies, procedures, academic requirements, registration processes, and available campus resources. Conduct outreach and intervention efforts for students identified as academically at risk or experiencing barriers to persistence and progression. Assist students in developing academic recovery strategies, success plans, and realistic pathways toward degree completion. Monitor student progress and maintain accurate advising documentation within university systems such as Jag360/Slate, JagTrax, and Banner. Facilitate referrals to campus resources including Financial Aid, Counseling and Psychological Services, Career Services, the Academic Success Center, Housing, Disability Services, and other student support offices as appropriate
Transition Programming and Student Engagement
Assist with the development and implementation of workshops, communication campaigns, and transition programming designed to support student persistence, engagement, and sense of belonging. Participate in orientation programs, transfer student initiatives, re-enrollment campaigns, and outreach efforts targeting students in transition populations. Support initiatives designed to improve student engagement scores through participation in campus events, workshops, and leadership opportunities. Help create a welcoming and student-centered environment that encourages connection, engagement, and holistic student success.

Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from accredited college or university. Two years of experience in education or customer/student-facing role; OR Master's degree from an accredited college or university and one year of related experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree from an accredited college or university and experience in advising counseling, or other closely related field; may include supervision or mentoring of others.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
KNOWLEDGE
Strong verbal/written communication and presentation skills. Must exert a high level of professionalism and self-motivation. Experience in customer service. Ability to work independently without extensive supervision. Detail-oriented, with the ability to multitask in a dynamic, fast-paced environment using multiple databases and software. Strong emotional intelligence with the ability to interact and develop relationships with a broad range of individuals. Proficiency in all Microsoft applications. Resourcefulness in conducting effective and efficient office operations to facilitate and support the mission of the department. High ethical standards and a commitment to confidentiality.
Shift/Salary/Benefits
Shift: Days: M-F (Work outside of normal business hours may be required)
Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position
