The College of Arts and Sciences is seeking to hire an experienced Academic Advisor II

HERE IS WHAT YOU WILL DO:
The ideal candidate for this position will perform all duties of a full-service professional academic advisor, including facilitating academic program development, advising students, and interpreting and implementing university policies and procedures. They will provide admissions support to department graduate directors for graduate enrollment management, course substitutions, petitions, and permissions, and support advisement-related events and data needs from Navigate. Additionally, the Academic Advisor II will be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Banner, and have experience with programs such as Argos, Degree Works, and Navigate.
The essential duties and responsibilities of the Academic Advisor II are the following:
  • Advise all graduate students in assigned programs and academic requirements.
  • Monitor and track student progress towards degree completion.
  • Perform regular and consistent audits of student programs of study to ensure compliance with department, college, and university degree requirements.
  • Participate in mandatory advisement sessions.
  • Analyze and process requests for re-entry.
  • Evaluate and determine transfer credits.
  • Evaluate and process all course substitutions.
  • Monitor students' registration for CPOS compliance.
  • Each semester, audit graduating student records for compliance with department, college, and university graduation requirements.
  • Enforce graduation completion deadlines for course and non-course milestones.
  • Track course and non-course milestones in Banner.
  • Clear students for graduation.
  • Compare transcripts with entrance and graduation requirements, and advise students on appropriate actions.
  • Each semester, oversee application submissions from all international and domestic applicants to specific graduate programs in the College of Arts & Sciences.
  • Review application materials for completion of necessary application materials and respond to applicant inquiries.
  • Troubleshoot Slate online application tool.
  • Evaluate admissions decisions for compliance with University and College policies.
  • Provide regular applicant data to departments to aid in the review process.
  • Attend orientations.
  • Act as liaison between the Office of Graduate Admissions and individual department graduate program directors.
  • Coordinate and communicate regularly with department graduate directors and staff on program changes and/or updates.
  • Assist in the preparation of special reports relating to enrollment and related matters.
  • Disseminate information on university policies and procedures to faculty, students, staff, etc.
  • Perform other related duties and special projects assigned.

Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree and either 1) 6 months experience as "Academic Advisor I" at GSU (University Advisement Center or other GSU advising department) or 2) three years of related experience; or a combination of education and related experience.
