Job description

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will develop and execute key technology components of the Group Benefits Absence Platform. Absence Comprehensive Experience (ACE) is one of the key initiatives that will drive the success of the Group Benefits growth strategy. It is one of the largest programs within Guardian today. This is not just a multi-year program to re-platform; it is the future of how we transform as a business: bringing a comprehensive Disability and Absence Management suite of offerings to Guardian Insurance customers. This role will work directly with solution architects, testing partners, cross-functional stakeholders and development team members to define, design and deliver the technical solutions that will support the business' vision, strategy and goals. The role will specifically support the objectives aligned with the ACE Program, implementing absence functionality across multiple workstreams.

A self-starter, continuous learner and experienced technical leader who is able to transform abstract ideas into actionable customer solutions, partnering across the company with engineers, product managers, business partners and executive stakeholders.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Develop complex solutions in an Agile environment as part of a global team of engineers, designers, and product experts
  • Hand-on API or micro-services development
  • Conduct and lead technical design discussions across multiple technology disciplines to propose viable solutions to complex problems
  • Develop and build strong relationships across the business to effectively influence and accomplish strategic objectives.
  • Assist on-shore and off-shore teams with issues needing technical expertise or complex systems and/or programming knowledge. Mentor and develop new or less experienced team members.
  • Liaise between software engineering teams and production support to facilitate operational readiness. Provide required support for escalated issues/defects.
  • Work with software engineering teams and testing partners to coordinate non-prod deployments
  • Parter with Release Management team for Production deployments
  • Partner with SaaS platform provider to deliver the capabilities for the program
  • Coordinate any enterprise changes with all software engineering teams to get that addressed across teams
  • Oversee Technical aspects of SDLC Governance process for the program
  • Analyze application logs (Splunk, Cloudwatch, ArgoCD, AppD) to find the root cause of the reported issues
  • Create required Monitoring and alerts for the program or work with software engineering team to create
  • Build and maintain deployment cadence

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field
  • 5+ years of professional software development experience
  • Experience with service-oriented and cloud native software architecture
  • Experience with a broad range of technologies including Java Springboot, Aurora PostgresSQL, Redis, Hibernate, Microsoft Graph API
  • Experience with modern API/ micro-service development, including build tools, testing and CI/CD
  • Experience with secure programming practices, software delivery and cloud security principles
  • Experience with AI assisted product development using Github Co-pilot or Claude
  • Experience with cloud technology including AWS, Docker, EKS, SNS/SQS, SDK
  • Experience with source control and development workflows: Bitbucket, Git
  • Experience with Logging & Monitoring tools like: AppDynamics, ArgoCD, CloudWatch, Splunk, Zenoss
  • Experience with Test Driven Development (TDD) to make sure 90-100% of code coverage of delivered product
  • Familiarity with API architectures including microservice strategy
  • Proven ability to take lead role in projects that span multiple teams, ability to deliver on time working in a fast-paced agile environment
  • Proven track record of developing and supporting large scale business critical systems
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills; solid understanding of coding aesthetics, able to review code, and provide suggestions
  • Must be comfortable in a fast pace, changing environment
  • Have strong presentation and collaboration skills and can clearly articulate all aspects of the job requirements, including the creation of formal documentation
  • Having Python, ReactJS & Apache Camel experience is a plus
  • Having FINEOS Group Insurance product knowledge is a plus

Salary Range:
$95,170.00 - $156,355.00
The salary range reflected above is a good faith estimate of base pay for the primary location of the position. The salary for this position ultimately will be determined based on the education, experience, knowledge, and abilities of the successful candidate. In addition to salary, this role may also be eligible for annual, sales, or other incentive compensation.
