Job description

Leigh Orthopedic Surgery Center is offering an excellent opportunity for an experienced Certified Surgical Assistant to join the team at our profitable state of the art ASC in the Virginia Beach/Norfolk area. 

Summary: The Certified Surgical Assistant (CSA) works as a 1st or 2nd assistant to the surgeon and under the direction and supervision of that surgeon may perform specific significant surgical tasks.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Demonstrates skills required by role as a Surgical Assistant including
    • Complete knowledge of instruments, equipment and supplies as well as proper uses and sterile technique
    • Demonstrates knowledge of anatomical structures
    • Assist in positioning patient and understands purpose of positioning devices and uses to protect the patient from injury and to promote optimal exposure
    • Ability to perform local anesthesia injections   
    • Anticipates, Listens, and assists under surgeon's supervision
    • Creates and maintains a sterile field throughout
    • Provides patient care that supports protection from harm
    • Provides patient care that supports physical functioning of the patient
    • Verifies medications, injections, labels, operative procedure, operative site and all allergies with surgeon and/or applicable RN support.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to a healthy work environment by modeling the desired behaviors and encouraging those in others including through rewarding and disciplining direct reports and addressing complaints and resolving problems
  • Demonstrates the ability to cope with, and manage change effectively, as well as help others do the same.
  • Demonstrates a clear understanding of regulations applicable to patient care and/or other center functions.
  • Follows the center exposure control plans/blood borne and airborne pathogens.
  • Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment.
  • Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a center team to facilitate the center's ability to meet its goals and objectives.
  • Assumes all other duties and responsibilities as assigned. 

Qualifications:

  • Graduate of accredited Surgical Assistant Program required; OR must hold active certification by NBSTSA (National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting) NSAA (National Surgical Assisting Association) or ABSA (American Board of Surgical Assisting) in lieu of CAAHEP SA program graduate
  • Surgical Assistant Certification required within 6 months of hire
  • Orthopedic service line experience required
  • BLS certification required
  • Must be able to work variable hours and flex with the surgical schedule and staffing needs
  • Prior Surgical Assistant or First Assist experience required
  • ASC experience preferred

No "call",  no weekends or holidays.  Relocation assistance is not available.

Compensation:

We are excited to offer a sign-on bonus as part of our competitive compensation package.
Hourly pay starts at $45.00, and the final offer will reflect your experience, skills, and qualifications.
