Industrial Coatings Applicator & Abrasive Blasting TechnicianA day in this role

Your shift starts with a quick safety huddle and equipment check. You verify humidity and temperature, stage blast media, and confirm masking per the work order. The morning is all about surface prep—abrasive blasting to the specified profile and cleaning, degreasing, and masking so coatings bond exactly as intended. After lunch, you mix coatings to manufacturer specs, set up airless or conventional spray gear, and apply finishes with spray guns, brushes, or rollers. You verify film build and coverage, document results, and keep your booth and tools spotless. Throughout the day, you communicate status to your supervisor and teammates, and you never compromise on PPE or safety protocols.

What you’ll do
  • Execute abrasive blasting to clean and prepare metal components for coatings.
  • Mix and apply industrial coatings using spray guns, brushes, and rollers.
  • Complete all pre-paint prep: cleaning, degreasing, and masking to specification.
  • Inspect finished surfaces for uniform coverage, thickness, and overall quality.
  • Follow safety procedures rigorously and wear required PPE at all times.
  • Service and care for blasting/painting equipment; promptly report malfunctions.
  • Monitor environmental conditions (humidity, temperature) and adjust processes accordingly.
  • Maintain orderly, clean work areas; properly store materials and equipment.
  • Read blueprints, drawings, and work orders to determine job requirements.
  • Provide clear updates to supervisors and collaborate with team members to resolve issues.
Preferred qualifications (not required)
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 2+ years of industrial painting and/or sandblasting experience.
  • Experience with airless and conventional spray systems.
  • Knowledge of coating systems and surface prep standards (e.g., SSPC/NACE).
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings/specifications.
  • Keen attention to detail and strong quality control focus.
  • Able to lift 50 lbs and perform physical work in varied conditions.
  • Industry certifications (e.g., NACE, SSPC).
  • Background in fabrication or manufacturing environments.
  • Experience operating a forklift or overhead crane.
