| Aspect | Abnormal Psychologist | Clinical Psychologist |
|---|---|---|
| Required Credentials | Doctoral degree (Ph.D. or Psy.D.), licensure, specialized training in abnormal psychology | Doctoral degree (Ph.D. or Psy.D.), licensure, training in clinical assessment and therapy |
| Work Environment | Research settings, universities, mental health clinics focusing on mental disorders | Hospitals, clinics, private practice providing therapy and assessment |

Job description
The Department of Psychology at Coe College invites applicants for a per-course instructor to teach Abnormal Psychology, one of our most consistently in-demand courses and a gateway to upper-level study in counseling psychology. This position is an excellent fit for graduate students and early-career individuals who are drawn to teaching-focused liberal arts environments.
Per-Course Instructor of Abnormal Psychology:
The successful candidate will teach one section of Abnormal Psychology in Fall 2026 (TR 12:30-1:50 pm), with the opportunity to teach an additional section of Abnormal Psychology in Spring 2027. We have not yet set the spring schedule, and we are happy to offer flexibility around days and times that work best in Spring 2027 for the instructor we hire.
Course description:

Qualifications:
ABD or terminal degree in Psychology or a closely related field preferred. Candidates with a completed master's degree and relevant teaching experience or clinical experience are also encouraged to apply.

Our Psychology Department is a closely knit group of colleagues who share materials and syllabi, offer peer feedback formally and informally, and genuinely invest in one another's success. Someone stepping into this role will not just receive a classroom assignment, they will have real colleagues to work alongside.
