Job description

Job Title: Public Works Technician

Department: Public Works

Reports To: Public Works Supervisor

Classification: Non-Exempt, Full-Time

Benefits: Benefits Eligible

Hourly Rate: $20.00

Location: Onsite - Remote or hybrid work arrangements are not permitted

Job Summary

The Public Works Technician supports grounds, land management, fire prevention, and light facilities maintenance operations by performing physically demanding outdoor work. Responsibilities include landscaping, vegetation clearing, firewood cutting and handling, equipment operation, basic building and site maintenance, material movement, and setup of work areas. This position works with tools and machinery to maintain Tribal properties and infrastructure while following established safety practices.

Essential Duties

  • Perform landscaping and grounds maintenance including brush clearing, vegetation trimming, and outdoor site upkeep.
  • Cut, split, move, and stack firewood as directed.
  • Operate, clean, and perform basic servicing of tools, vehicles, and work equipment.
  • Assist with setup and teardown of work areas and equipment staging. Maintain cleanliness and organization of work sites and storage areas.
  • Follow safety procedures and use required protective equipment at all times.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Identify and report equipment issues, hazards, or maintenance needs.
  • Move materials, supplies, and equipment as required for work activities.
  • Transport materials, tools, firewood, and equipment to and from job sites.
  • Conduct light building and facilities maintenance tasks under supervision.
  • Support land clearing and fire prevention activities such as debris removal and fuel reduction.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Physical ability to perform strenuous outdoor work, including lifting up to 50 pounds and working on uneven terrain in varying weather conditions.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • First Aid/CPR certification, or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment background investigation and alcohol/drug screening in accordance with organizational policy.
  • Prior experience using basic hand tools or outdoor work equipment.
  • At least one year of documented experience performing outdoor manual labor, landscaping, maintenance, construction, land clearing, or similar physically demanding work.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supervising grounds or facilities crews.
  • Familiarity with equipment servicing and preventative maintenance.
  • Experience working in safety-sensitive outdoor environments.

PRCI Tribal Preference:

In accordance with applicable Tribal law and Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Picayune Rancheria of the Chukchansi Indians (PRCI) Administration provides employment preference to enrolled PRCI Tribal Members. To qualify, applicants must submit valid proof of enrollment. Tribal Members who meet the minimum qualifications will be given preference in hiring, promotion, transfer, and layoff decisions. During the interview process, PRCI Tribal Members will receive an additional 7.5 points (10% of the 75-point interview rubric). Non-PRCI Native American candidates will receive an additional 5 points (6.7% of the total points) in accordance with Indian Preference guidelines.

Indian Preference Statement:

In compliance with 25 CFR Part 276 and Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, Sections 701(b) and 703(i), employment preference shall be given to qualified applicants who are enrolled members of the Picayune Rancheria of the Chukchansi Indians, and secondarily, to another qualified American Indian/Alaska Native Candidate.
