When a job description lists 'ability to obtain a security clearance' as a requirement, it means the position involves access to sensitive information and you must be eligible for a background investigation by a government agency. This process can be extensive, examining your employment history, criminal record, financial status, and sometimes even travel or personal associations. Applicants should be prepared for a waiting period before starting work if they don't already hold an active clearance.
