Job description

About This Role

ABC Academy is seeking a passionate, nurturing, and collaborative Preschool Teacher to lead a classroom of curious young learners. The Preschool Teacher creates a safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate environment where children thrive through play, exploration, creativity, and meaningful relationships.

Our ideal candidate understands that preschool is about much more than preparing children for kindergarten—it’s about building confidence, independence, curiosity, resilience, social emotional skills, and a lifelong love of learning.

At ABC Academy, we believe childhood is a time for wonder, joy, and discovery. We are a vibrant, licensed learning community proudly serving families in Milton and St. Albans, Vermont. Our nurturing, play-based environment empowers children—from 6 weeks through 8th grade across our campuses—to learn through hands-on exploration, curiosity, and meaningful connections with their peers, educators, families, and the natural world.

Whether we’re splashing in puddles, creating masterpieces with paint and clay, reading stories under a tree, or helping children solve problems together, every day at ABC Academy is filled with purpose, joy, and growth. If you believe children should be seen, supported, challenged, and celebrated, we’d love to welcome you to the ABC family.

What You'll Do

What You Will Do:

Create Meaningful Learning Experiences

  • Plan and implement engaging, developmentally appropriate curriculum aligned with Vermont Early Learning Standards.
  • Foster learning through play, inquiry, hands-on experiences, and child-led exploration.
  • Encourage language, literacy, early math, science, art, and problem-solving throughout the daily routine.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the individual needs and developmental levels of each child.

Inspire Outdoor Learning

  • Incorporate nature into daily learning experiences through outdoor play, gardening, nature walks, sensory exploration, loose parts play, and seasonal activities.
  • Promote curiosity, observation, and appreciation for the natural world while ensuring children’s safety.
  • Embrace outdoor learning in all Vermont seasons.

Foster Social-Emotional Growth

  • Build secure, trusting relationships with every child.
  • Use positive guidance strategies to teach emotional regulation, conflict resolution, empathy, and problem-solving.
  • Support children’s growing independence, confidence, and self-help skills.
  • Create an inclusive classroom where every child feels valued and respected.

Support Children’s Development

  • Observe, document, and assess children’s growth and development using TSG Gold
  • Use observations to inform lesson planning and communicate progress with families.
  • Maintain accurate classroom documentation as required by licensing and program standards.

Partner with Families

  • Build strong, respectful relationships with families through open, positive communication.
  • Share children’s successes, milestones, and daily experiences.
  • Work collaboratively with families to support each child’s growth and development.

Maintain a Safe, Healthy Classroom

  • Create and maintain an organized, welcoming, and engaging learning environment.
  • Ensure compliance with all licensing regulations, health and safety requirements, and ABC Academy policies.
  • Support daily routines including meals, rest time, toileting, transitions, and classroom cleanup.
  • Practice active supervision and maintain a safe environment both indoors and outdoors.

Collaborate as a Professional

  • Work closely with teaching partners, administrators, and support staff to provide high-quality care and education.
  • Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and ongoing training.
  • Contribute positively to ABC Academy’s collaborative, supportive culture.

Requirements
  • Associated Degree Required in ECE or a related field - Bachelor’s Degree Preferred
  • Must be able to pass a background Check

A Nature Enthusiast

You enjoy spending time outdoors in every season and recognize nature as an extension of the classroom. Mud, rain, snow, and sunshine are opportunities for learning—not obstacles.
