About This Role

The Clemson Child Development Center (CCDC) is a non-profit ABC Quality Early Learning Center dedicated to the highest standards in early childhood care and education. Our focus is on the first five years of life. A vital window of opportunity in brain development.


CCDC seeks an Assistant Teacher-Floater who is a highly self-motivated individual willing to work hard as part of a team providing the highest quality care and education for children ages six weeks to five years. The position requires an active, outgoing, kind and committed person who will participate in every aspect of early childhood development and must understand the important role an early childhood educator plays in the development of a child’s brain and overall health and well-being. The position requires a solutions-oriented perspective. This adaptable and mobile employee works closely with classroom Teachers and supports the daily operations of the Center. This person will employ a high level of professionalism and a willingness to collaborate with other staff in the CCDC School Family in meeting the standards set forth by DSS, DHEC, CACFP, and the ABC Quality rating scale.

What You'll Do

Responsibilities:

  • Follow all CCDC Employee policies and procedures; request Program Manager clarification as needed
  • Follow and support all CCDC Parent policies and procedures; request Program Manager support when necessary
  • Substitute in classrooms and provide breaks for teachers when necessary if/when assigned by Supervisor/Program Manager/Executive Director
  • Assist in completing/maintaining student attendance and meal records, student/teacher ABC ratios, and DSS tracking sheets
  • Effectively utilize PLAYGROUND via iPad to communicate with parents by sharing daily activities, photos, and progress updates
  • Effectively utilize CCDC Outlook email and PLAYGROUND to communicate with CCDC administration and other members of CCDC Staff/School Family
  • Maintain an active/mobile role in all locations and settings; always remain present and engaged
  • Follow classroom schedule, expectations, and lesson plans, implementing age-appropriate curriculum as assigned (The Creative Curriculum for Infants & Toddlers/Preschool, Conscious Discipline, SCPITC, and Handwriting Without Tears)
  • Collaborate and cooperate with colleagues to foster positive contributions to the CCDC School Family to promote a healthy system
  • Actively participate in meal service (family style meals when possible); guide student behavior in cafeteria or classroom and during clean-up from meals or snacks
  • Actively supervise Outdoor Learning Spaces activity, monitor for safety, and assist children with social interactions using Conscious Discipline principles
  • Assist fellow staff to process laundry—wash/dry/fold as needed
  • Ensure your classroom has ample supplies for daily operations
  • Maintain cleanliness of classroom, screened-in porch, and outdoor learning spaces while guiding children to take care of equipment, toys, and learning materials
  • Follow opening procedures and/or closing procedures as required
  • Attend and participate in scheduled staff meetings and required training or teacher workdays
  • Attend all CCDC mandatory trainings for Conscious Discipline (CD), Creative Curriculum, SCPITC, and Handwriting Without Tears (HWOT) as assigned

Requirements
  • High School Diploma or Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field of study.
  • Infant/Child CPR and First Aid Certification (will provide if not yet achieved)
  • Completion of 15 hours of Health and Safety Training or ECD 101 (will provide if not yet achieved)
  • Register on SC Endeavors and Register on SC Endeavors Career Ladder
  • Highly flexible and willing to change direction when needed
  • Familiarity with children of all age groups (6 weeks-5 years)
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Must clear full background check per SC DSS requirements
  • Must pass health screening per SC DSS requirements
  • Must be able to see and/or hear a child in distress up to 25 feet away.
  • Must be able to lift 30 lbs repeatedly during the course of each day.
  • Must be able to sit on the floor with children and be able to get up quickly.
  • Must be able to lift babies in and out of cribs.
  • Mandatory annual training for DSS and ABC (once employed)- total of 20 hours
  • Mandatory training in South Carolina Program for Infant and Toddler Care (SCPITC) (once employed)

Nice To Haves

Associates Degree in Early Childhood Development (ECD) or Early Childhood Education (ECE)

Experience working with young children in a preschool setting.

Previous training and experience implementing Conscious Discipline
