About This Role

Clemson Child Development Center seeks an 4-K Assistant Teacher to assist lead 4-K teacher in providing a safe and nurturing environment for children that encourages their social/emotional, physical, creative, and cognitive development. The 4-K Assistant Teacher will assist in the development and implementation of appropriate curriculum for children enrolled in the program. This teacher will also assist with all activities the class participates in throughout the day.

Clemson Child Development Center was founded over 50 years ago as a non-profit childcare facility with the mission to serve all children in the Clemson area with affordable, high-quality childcare and a preschool education in a diverse learning environment. The tradition of excellence continues with an A+, ABC Quality Rating and the First Steps 4K Program taught at CCDC. Our teachers foster learning and development through creative, cognitive, social and physical activities appropriate for each age group. We are a full-service Early Learning Center providing education, care, and meals for children six weeks through 4 years old.

What You'll Do

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Adhere to the First Steps 4K Guidelines
  • Follow all CCDC policies and procedures, in compliance with state and federal guidelines such as SC DSS, DHEC and USDA.
  • Assist the First Steps 4K Lead Teacher with the development and execution of weekly lesson plans in accordance with curriculum requirements and standards.
  • Learn and implement ABC Intentional Teaching Tools for Preschool Classrooms
  • Foster a classroom environment of safety and respect- Learn and implement Conscious Discipline with training and coaching
  • Perform daily cleaning routines to keep facilities sanitary and safe
  • Attend all required First Steps 4K and SC DSS trainings and obtain required continuing education hours.
  • Attend all CCDC staff meetings (1x/month) and mandatory trainings.
  • Assist in ensuring the safety of children through constant supervision, effective arrangement of space, proper maintenance of equipment, and regular practice of fire drills and other emergency procedures.
  • Assist in the general operation of the classroom
  • Perform daily cleaning routines to protect furnishings and keep classroom orderly and safe.
  • Actively participate in outdoor classroom activities and be willing and able to lead a teacher-directed activity for each outdoor learning time-frame
  • Assist with family style meals in cafeteria.
  • Assist with snack preparation, potty breaks, hand washing, nap time, and laundry.
  • Work with fellow classrooms as needed.
  • Maintain open and effective communication with students, parents, administration, and fellow teachers.

Requirements
  • High School Diploma or Associate Degree in early childhood education or related field of study.
  • Infant/Child CPR and First Aid Certification (may be obtained within time frame approved by Program Director).
  • Completion of 15 hours of Health and Safety Training or ECD 101.
  • Complete 15 hours of training per DSS requirements
  • Complete 5 hours of training per ABC Standards
  • Attend all CCDC mandatory trainings for Conscious Discipline, Creative Curriculum, and Handwriting Without Tears
  • Two years of direct professional experience in an early childhood setting.
  • High energy and enthusiasm.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • A strong understanding of child development.
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Must clear full background check per SC DSS requirements.
  • Must pass health screening per SC DSS requirements.
  • Must be able to see and/or hear a child in distress up to 25 feet away.
  • Must be able to lift 30 lbs repeatedly during the course of each day.
  • Must be able to sit on the floor with children and be able to get up quickly.

Nice To Haves
  • Completion of the Early Childhood Education Credential (EDC 101)
  • CPR and First Aid Certification
  • Experience working in a play-based environment
  • Have completed college ECD 101 course.
  • Familiarity with The Creative Curriculum for Preschool
  • Associate degree in ECE or related field of study.
