Abaqus information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Abaqus position, and why are they important?

To thrive in a role specialized in Abaqus, you need an in-depth understanding of finite element analysis (FEA), engineering mechanics, and proficiency in numerical modeling, typically supported by a degree in mechanical, aerospace, or civil engineering. Mastery of the Abaqus software suite, familiarity with Python scripting for automation, and knowledge of CAD integration are highly valued; certifications in FEA or simulation tools can be advantageous. Strong problem-solving, attention to detail, and effective communication skills distinguish top performers in this field. These capabilities ensure accurate modeling, efficient project workflow, and the ability to clearly present technical results to teams and clients.

What is an Abaqus job?

An Abaqus job refers to the process of setting up, running, and analyzing a simulation using Abaqus, a powerful finite element analysis (FEA) software. It involves defining a model, applying boundary conditions, assigning material properties, and specifying loading conditions. Once submitted, the software solves the problem numerically and generates results, which can be visualized and interpreted for engineering insights. Abaqus jobs are commonly used in structural, thermal, and multiphysics simulations across industries like aerospace, automotive, and civil engineering.

What are some typical daily tasks and responsibilities for someone working with Abaqus software?

Professionals using Abaqus are typically responsible for setting up and running simulations to analyze the behavior of structures or materials under various conditions. Their daily tasks often include creating and refining finite element models, conducting pre- and post-processing of simulation data, and collaborating with engineers or design teams to interpret and report findings. Regular responsibilities also involve troubleshooting simulation issues, optimizing model performance, and maintaining thorough documentation. This role often requires close teamwork with other engineering disciplines to validate results and ensure that project objectives are met efficiently.

Job description

Job Title
Structural CAE Engineer - Abaqus
Overview
We are seeking an experienced Structural CAE Engineer to support high-voltage battery structural design and analysis using advanced CAE tools. This role will work closely with design and engineering teams to evaluate and improve structural performance through simulation, analysis, and correlation with physical testing. The position offers the opportunity to contribute to innovative battery technologies in a collaborative engineering environment.
Key Responsibilities
• Build 3D battery structural analysis models from CAD designs.
• Debug complex finite element (FE) models independently.
• Perform structural simulations at the system, subsystem, and component levels using nonlinear FEA tools.
• Conduct pre-processing and post-processing activities using industry-standard CAE software.
• Evaluate simulation results and provide technical recommendations to engineering teams.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to obtain simulation boundary conditions and support design development.
• Correlate CAE models with physical test data and improve model accuracy.
• Support structural testing activities, including instrumentation and data analysis.
• Coordinate with global engineering teams on meshing and geometry cleanup activities.
• Prepare technical reports, recommendations, and engineering documentation.
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related field.
• 4+ years of experience working with structural components and designs in an engineering environment.
• Minimum 3 years of experience performing nonlinear FEA using Abaqus.
• Strong experience with Abaqus and HyperMesh.
• Experience with CAE tools such as nCode, fe-safe, and 3DEXPERIENCE (3DX).
• Experience building, analyzing, and troubleshooting structural CAE models.
• Strong understanding of structural analysis, finite element methods, and model correlation techniques.
• Experience correlating CAE results with physical test data.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
• Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• Graduate-level coursework or research involving finite element analysis (FEA).
• 5+ years of experience in structural CAE modeling and simulation.
• Experience with HyperView, ABAQUS Viewer, Teamcenter, ANSYS, OptiStruct, or similar tools.
• Experience with fatigue analysis tools such as FEMFAT, nCode, or fe-safe.
• Proficiency in Abaqus Python scripting for automation and post-processing.
• Knowledge of fracture mechanics, material behavior, crack initiation, and crack propagation.
• Experience with thermal-mechanical coupled analysis.
• Experience with optimization tools such as modeFRONTIER, iSight, HEEDS, Tosca, or OptiStruct.
• Experience with physical testing and data collection.
