Sleep Technologist

Position Summary
We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Sleep Technologist to join our team. The Sleep Technologist works under the general supervision of the medical director or designee to perform comprehensive evaluations and treatments for sleep-related disorders. This includes both in-center and out-of-center sleep studies, diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, patient education, and oversight of sleep center operations. Candidates must be credentialed and licensed in sleep technology.
Key Responsibilities
Sleep Study Preparation & Setup
  • Review patient history, verify medical orders, and assess individual needs.
  • Determine and prepare testing parameters based on protocols and physician direction.
  • Educate and orient patients prior to sleep studies (in-center or at-home testing).
  • Calibrate and apply sensors/electrodes following industry standards.
  • Perform PAP interface fittings and desensitization procedures.
Sleep Study Monitoring & Procedures
  • Conduct studies such as MSLT, MWT, parasomnia studies, PAP titrations, and oxygen therapy.
  • Monitor and document physiological data, sleep stages, and clinical events.
  • Identify and correct artifacts to ensure high-quality data acquisition.
  • Score sleep/wake stages and events using AASM standards.
  • Generate accurate reports and summarize clinical data.
  • Administer interventions (e.g., oxygen, PAP) when needed.
  • Provide age-appropriate care across the lifespan (neonatal to geriatric).
Out-of-Center Sleep Testing (OCST)
  • Prepare, instruct, and educate patients on home sleep testing equipment.
  • Download and interpret data, identifying artifacts or study failures.
  • Ensure adherence to AASM guidelines and infection control protocols.
Operational & Administrative Duties
  • Maintain and troubleshoot equipment; track inventory.
  • Respond to patient inquiries and provide procedural education.
  • Adhere to HIPAA and infection control standards.
  • Support sleep center operations and quality assurance initiatives.
  • Collaborate with clinical staff and assist with training or feedback.
  • Uphold professional conduct and support a positive patient experience.
Qualifications
  • Current Virginia license in Polysomnographic Technology
  • Credentialed by a nationally recognized certification board with one of the following:
    • Registered Sleep Technologist (RST)
    • Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT)
    • Sleep Disorders Specialist (SDS)
  • Valid CPR or BCLS certification
  • Proficiency with sleep study software and electronic documentation
  • Strong communication, critical thinking, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
