Is being a watchmaker a good career?

A watchmaker is a skilled tradesperson who repairs and maintains watches, often requiring precision, manual dexterity, and knowledge of horology. The career can be stable with opportunities in luxury and vintage watch markets, but it typically involves apprenticeships, certifications, and working in specialized environments. Job prospects depend on demand for high-end watch repair and the ability to adapt to technological changes in the industry.

What jobs pay $500,000 a year in the US?

A watchmaker typically does not earn $500,000 annually; such high salaries are usually associated with executive roles, specialized surgeons, or successful entrepreneurs. In rare cases, highly experienced professionals in niche fields or those owning their own businesses may reach this level, but it is uncommon for standard watchmakers. Most high-paying jobs in the US require advanced skills, significant experience, or ownership of a profitable enterprise.

How to get a job as a watchmaker?

To become a watchmaker, you typically need to complete a specialized apprenticeship or technical training program in horology, often offered by trade schools or watchmaking institutes. Gaining hands-on experience, developing skills in repairing and assembling watches, and obtaining certification from recognized organizations can improve employment prospects.
