Position Summary


Reports to- Well Abandonment Operations Manager

The primary responsibility of a P&A Pump Operator is to run and understand the flow and function of the pump and manifold systems and have a working knowledge of pressures and how to control them. 


Knowledge, Skills & Capabilities


Must be able to speak, read and write in English and have good communication skills.

Ability to read and interpret documents such as procedure manuals, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and safe work practices. 

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages, area, circumference, volume, proportions, and discounts.

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions in the form of written, oral, or diagram form

Ability to trouble shoot and diagnose equipment problems. 

Ability to use a variety of hand and power tools to perform a range of mechanically oriented functions including independent use of heavy-duty handheld and long-handled tools.


Roles and Responsibilities 


Must have successfully mastered all P&A Assistant job responsibilities/duties.

Ability to rebuild and repack a pump.

Have a working knowledge of both the suction and pressure manifolds.

Knowledge of safety precautions for self and others.

Ability to understand the flow and function of the pump and manifold systems.

Proficient in calculating fluid and cement volumes.

Good mechanical understanding of the hydraulic system.

Must have a working knowledge of pressures and how to control them.

Ability to adjust, set, and reset pressure pop off valves.

Must have tolerance, stamina and flexibility to work outdoors in any weather conditions.

Willingness to perform responsibilities that require physical exertion.

Ability to take direction and show initiative.

Participate in all required meetings, trainings, and development activities.


Strength and Force (minimal requirement)


This position will frequently require 10-50 lbs. of force, and rarely require 50+ lbs. of force. 


Physical Demands


Requirements for this position more than 2/3 of the time while on the job (but not limited to):

Standing, walking, sitting, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk, and hear, use hands to finger, handle or feel. 


Work Environment


The working conditions of the area in which the P&A Pump Operator shall perform his/her duties are located offshore with extensive outdoor assignments. While on the job (but not limited to): Vibration, Fumes or airborne particles, work near moving mechanical parts, wet or humid conditions (other than weather), outdoor weather conditions, extreme heat (non-weather), and risk of electrical shock.
