Responsibilities & Requirements
The Chief Medical Information Officer (CMIO) serves as a key physician executive responsible for the strategic and operational leadership of clinical technology initiatives across a $3B integrated healthcare system. As the bridge between frontline clinicians and information systems, the CMIO ensures that health information technology solutions are fully aligned with the goals of delivering high-quality, efficient, equitable, and data-driven patient care.
This role champions the adoption and optimization of advanced technologies including artificial intelligence (AI), ambient documentation, clinical decision support tools, advanced analytics, and robust interoperability standards. The CMIO partners closely with the CIO, Chief Medical Officer, Chief Nursing Officer, and operational leaders to accelerate digital transformation and improve clinical outcomes, safety, and provider experience
Education Requirements
  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) from an accredited institution.
  • Board-certified and actively practicing or with recent clinical experience.
  • Active and unrestricted medical license in the state [insert state].
  • Epic Physician Builder Certification or willingness to obtain within 12 months.
  • Preferred: Master's in Public Health (MPH), Business Administration (MBA), Health Administration (MHA), or Biomedical Informatics.

Work Experience
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of progressive leadership in clinical informatics within a complex healthcare organization.
  • Proven track record leading system-wide adoption of EHR (preferably Epic), digital health solutions, and technology-enabled clinical transformation.
  • Demonstrated experience in change leadership, AI-enabled technologies, interoperability frameworks, and data analytics for population health and predictive insights.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Certified Physician Executive (CPE)
  • Clinical Informatics Board Certification (ABPM or equivalent)
  • Epic Clinical Informatics Certification
  • Fellow of HIMSS or AMIA
