What is a 70 hours a week job?

A 70-hours-a-week job typically involves working long hours, often exceeding the standard 40-hour workweek. These jobs are common in industries like finance, healthcare, tech, and consulting, where high workloads and demanding schedules are expected. Employees in these roles may work 10-hour days or longer, including weekends. While they can offer high salaries and career growth, maintaining work-life balance can be challenging.

What does it mean to work 70 hours a week?

Working 70 hours a week means consistently putting in significantly more time than the standard 40-hour workweek, often across six or seven days. This schedule is common in demanding industries or during peak project periods. While it can lead to increased income or career advancement, it may also result in fatigue, stress, and a poor work-life balance. Individuals considering such a schedule should weigh the potential professional benefits against the possible impacts on their health and personal life.

What should I consider before applying to positions that typically require working 70 hours a week?

Roles that demand 70 hours of work per week can be intense and are often found in industries like investment banking, management consulting, or certain healthcare specialties. Additionally, consider the company's support systems, such as flexible scheduling, mental health resources, and team collaboration practices, as these can significantly impact your experience. Be sure to clarify expectations about overtime, compensation, and potential for advancement to ensure the position aligns with your career goals and personal well-being.
