Job description

We are seeking four highly skilled and detail-oriented Sterile Processing Technicians to work on-site at Tripler Army Medical Center.ย 
Location: Tripler Army Medical Center
Duty Hours:ย ย Hours of performance may include shift work.ย 
Normal duty hours may include rotating 8, 10, 12-hour and part-time shifts,ย including nights, weekends and federal holidays
ย 

Job Responsibilities:ย 

  • Instrument decontamination, assembly and sterilization of the following surgical specialties: general surgery, robotics, neurosurgery, plastic surgery, urology, ophthalmology, ENT, OB/GYN, OMFS, vascular and orthopedic surgery.
  • Prepare instrumentation and supplies for surgery as necessary, including use of various methods of sterilization.
  • Monitors and tracks surgical instruments using computer automated instrument tracking log/system, performs record keeping for all sterilization processes.
  • Checks expiration dates on all sterile supply items, removes outdated items, and rotates the stock on a โ€œfirst in, first outโ€ basis.
  • Maintains and restocks Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) cart exchange program including transportation of CPR carts in emergency situations and maintaining supplies and documentation.
  • Assembles and disassembles instrumentation and equipment per manufacturerโ€™s instructions for use (MIFU).
  • Perform daily and weekly cleanings and function testing on all equipment.
  • Participate in the Orientation and Training of 68D Students, new employees, medical interns, nursing students, residents, and other medical training program provided by Tripler Army Medical center.
  • Assist with oversight of the 68D students as needed. The contractors may be assigned to assist in the orientation of staff members and/or training of 68D students.
  • Daily assignments may include orientation or training of students and new personnel.
  • Assist in training staff members and 68D in the operation of sterile processing equipment, handling and assembling instruments and sets, procedures for decontamination, assembly, and sterilization of equipment and instruments.
  • Carry a paging and/or other electronic communication devices used by the operating room personnel.ย 

Minimum Requirements:
ย 

  • Degree/Education: Certificate. Completion of a sterile processing/supply trainingย course. Current certification by the International Association of Healthcare Centralย Services Materials Management or current certification by the National Institute ofย Health Care Sterile Processing and Distribution Personnel.
  • Experience: Sterile Processing Technician-Must have a minimum of three (3)ย continuous years of recent (one year of which must have occurred within the lastย year) experience working as sterile processing technician in an SPD setting. Mustย have diverse sterile processing experiences to include instrumentย decontamination, assembly and preparation, and sterilization. Ability to operateย and troubleshoot all processing equipment to include washer-disinfectors,ย sterilizers, ultrasonic cleaners, and automatic endoscope reprocessors.ย 
    • Knowledgeable in following surgical instrument specialties: general surgery,ย urology, robotics, plastic surgery, neurosurgery, eye surgery, ENT, GYN,ย vascular and orthopedic surgery.
  • Certifications: BLS

  • Must pass TB Test
  • Subject to a background/security investigation and pre-employment drug screening
  • Willingness to comply with DHA vaccination requirements.
