OVERVIEW:
TMG has an exciting opportunity for a full time Small Boat Diesel Engine Mechanic to support the Navy in Fort. Lauderdale, FL at NAVSEA's South Florida Ocean Measurement Facility (SFOMF). Our team is seeking a Small Marine Diesel Engine Mechanic to join our team, specializing in vessels under 50 feet. This position is ideal for a motivated mechanic with hands-on experience who wants to work in one of the busiest marine markets in the country.
Responsibilities
  • Diagnose, service, and repair diesel engines on boats under 50'
  • Perform routine maintenance (oil changes, filters, belts, cooling systems)
  • Troubleshoot fuel, electrical, and cooling systems
  • Conduct sea trials and operational testing as needed
  • Maintain accurate service records
  • Communicate clearly with customers and team members
  • Follow safety and environmental regulations

Requirements
  • 1-5 years of experience working on marine diesel engines
  • Strong mechanical and diagnostic skills
  • Familiarity with common marine diesel brands (e.g., Yanmar, Volvo Penta, Cummins, Perkins, etc.)
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Reliable transportation and valid driver's license
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S., pass background checks, drug testing, and attain a DoW clearance

  • Boat Captain's License - 6-Pack License (100-Ton)
  • Formal marine or diesel mechanic training

Ancillary Requirements
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, talk, hear, walk, sit, and use fingers, tools or operate machinery. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, the ability to adjust focus, and depth perception. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 40 or more lbs.
EXPERIENCE LEVEL: Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience as an Electronics Technician, with a focus on complex electronic systems and data acquisition. Maritime / Ocean technical experience a plus.
TECHNICAL EXPERTISE: Proficiency in troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining electronic equipment and systems. Familiarity with offshore environments and challenges is a plus.
EDUCATION: Associate's degree in Electronics Technology, Electronic testing or related field. Bachelor's degree preferred.
CERTIFICATIONS AND TOOLS: Certifications: Relevant certifications in electronics, such as Certified Electronics Technician (CET), are advantageous.
SECURITY CLEARANCE: Must be US citizen with ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance or favorable adjudication of a national security background investigation. Current successful background investigation completion is a plus and could give you preference.
