What is a 4K teacher?

4K teachers are early childhood educators who work with children in four-year-old kindergarten programs, often referred to as 4K. They help young learners develop foundational skills in areas such as literacy, numeracy, social interaction, and emotional regulation. 4K teachers use age-appropriate activities, play-based learning, and structured routines to support children's growth and prepare them for kindergarten and beyond. These educators also collaborate with families and other professionals to ensure a supportive and nurturing learning environment.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a 4K teacher, and why are they important?

To thrive as a 4K Teacher, you need a degree in early childhood education, knowledge of child development, and a valid teaching license for the appropriate age group. Familiarity with learning management systems, classroom technology, and curriculum planning tools is often required. Patience, creativity, effective communication, and classroom management are vital soft skills for engaging young learners and fostering a positive environment. These skills and qualifications are important for delivering high-quality, developmentally appropriate instruction that supports each child's growth and readiness for kindergarten.

What are some common challenges 4K teachers face when working with young children, and how can they effectively address them?

4K Teachers often encounter challenges such as managing diverse developmental needs, fostering positive classroom behavior, and engaging children with varying attention spans. To address these, teachers use differentiated instruction, incorporate hands-on and play-based learning activities, and establish consistent routines to create a supportive environment. Collaborating closely with teaching assistants, families, and special education staff also helps in meeting individual student needs and promoting social-emotional growth.

We’re a 5-Star Program committed to excellence in early childhood education. With locations in downtown Milwaukee, Bay View, Brookfield, Oak Creek, South Milwaukee, Waukesha and West Allis, we proudly serve infants through school-age children. As a leading non-profit provider in Milwaukee County, we’re dedicated to fostering curiosity, imagination, and a lifelong love of learning.

  • Mentor and collaborate with Assistant Teachers, ensuring seamless teamwork and high standards of care.
  • Build strong, respectful relationships with families through open communication and regular updates.
  • Observe, assess, and document children’s progress to tailor learning experiences and share insights with parents.
  • Maintain an organized and exciting classroom, filled with materials that spark curiosity.
  • Model professional behavior and inspire a culture of excellence and positivity.
  • Ensure compliance with state regulations and center policies.

What We’re Looking For

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field (or an Associate’s Degree with significant experience).
  • Previous experience as a Lead Teacher or equivalent leadership role in early childhood education.
  • Strong understanding of child development and best practices in education.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Positive, creative, and flexible approach to teaching.
  • Infant/Child CPR and First Aid certification (or ability to obtain within 3 months).
  • Clear background check, health screening, and TB test.

Why You’ll Love Leading at Ebenezer

  • Child Care Discounts: Bring your little ones to work!
  • Professional Growth: Tuition reimbursement, paid training, and mentoring opportunities.
  • Work-Life Balance: Generous PTO, paid holidays, and life insurance fully covered by us.
  • Full Benefits Package: Health, dental, and vision insurance + retirement plan with a 3% match.

  • Team Bonding: Enjoy outings, activities, and rewards for your hard work.
