Job description

Summary
This position is located in the Architect of the Capitol, Senate Office Buildings.
Seeking an experienced, licensed forklift operator to operate a forklift to transport compressed bales of cardboard, magazines, newspapers, books and other materials compressed by a baling machine. The forklift operator will also receive and unload incoming vendor shipments and assists with disposal of waste materials.

This is a night shift position and the tour of duty is: 9:00 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. Monday (night) to Saturday (morning).
This is an Essential-Employee Position. The employee will be required to report to work during emergencies AND inclement weather situations.
Work schedule may require some occasionally mandatory overtime on holidays AND weekends.
Responsibilities:
Materials Handling:
Receives and unloads delivery trucks and other designated conveyances. Palletizes and stacks material.
Separates material received in accordance with serviceability condition and forwards accordingly. Initials accountable receipt document assuming responsibility for accuracy.
Opens containers and checks materials received against invoice report or receipt document, comparing short titles, stock numbers, register numbers and quantity.
Checks for and ensures the correctness of register numbers, stock numbers, quantity, short titles and classification of each item ordered for shipment.
Coordinates the movement of incoming and outgoing supplies and placement of materials within the docking and storage areas.
Ensures committee rooms and other areas where access is restricted to day operations are cleaned. Operates industrial vacuum cleaners, floor polishers and other cleaning tools and equipment to vacuum rugs, clean floors, base-boards and performs other routine cleaning tasks. Loads, transports, unloads and assembles tools, parts and materials.
Ensures worksites are cleaned. Ensures floors are stripped, waxed, polished and buffed. Loads and unloads trash and recycling.
Sorts and disposes of recyclable materials and separates hazardous materials for disposal.
Fork Lift Operating:
Operates an electric or gasoline fork lift truck to move items from one location to another within the baling machine and loading dock areas. Maneuvers trucks to lift, stack and/or move baled materials from the baling machine to flatbed trucks.
Performs lockout-tag out procedures to ensure that equipment is properly shut off and not started up prior to the completion of maintenance or servicing work.
Unloads and uncrates vendor delivered construction related items, such as electrical, lumber and other building material, masonry materials, plumbing supplies, etc.
Operates hand truck, pallet jacks, dollies and cherry picker. Performs incidental driving of flatbed trucks weighing less than 26,000 lbs. May utilize a shrink wrap machine, banding machine and other material handling equipment to deliver stock to storage areas or job sites.
Operates a Fork Lift with a load capacity of more than 10,000 pounds and a height capacity of 168 inches or more. Controls stack movement, being careful to avoid overloading or improper stacking or movement of supplies and materials.
Coordinates the movement of incoming and outgoing supplies and placement of materials within the docking and storage areas.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
