Receiving Manager, Danbury

Full Time Salaried

Salary Range: $84,823 - $104,397 depending on qualifications and experience 

 

Position Description:

Oversee the activities of the Receiving Department within a single retail location.  Supervise and coordinate the efforts of the Receiving team in order to support Sales/Operations with respect to product fulfillment and the supply chain.  Manage the intake and transfer processes in order to efficiently supply the freshest and highest quality product to Stew Leonard’s Customers.  Ensure that the team members assigned within the warehouse enjoy the safest working environment possible.

 

Your day-to-day:

  • Lead, execute and monitor inbound and outbound receiving processes to company standards including dock security, inbound transfer processing, direct-to-store shipments, supply deliveries, refuse and recycling initiatives. 
  • Daily upkeep and organization of a fully operational warehouse and distribution facility. 
  • Prioritize and orchestrate the activities of various warehouse personnel in order to meet daily, weekly and fiscal objectives. 
  • Inspect and document the physical condition of the warehouse, material handling equipment and take corrective action when necessary. 
  • Plan, develop, and implement warehouse safety and security principles.
  • Actively survey and assess his/her respective location in an effort to ensure a proactive approach in reducing the probability of injury and/or loss/damage of Stew Leonard’s assets. 
  • Assist Human Resources with respect to interviewing, selection, and training of new warehouse team members. 
  • Adhere to departmental budgets with focus on expenses and labor.  Confer and build partnerships with Operations/Sales in an effort to manage resources and provide the most efficient level of support. 
  • Ensure that all reports maintain certifications as defined by internal, State, and Federal guidelines.  Verifies and keeps records of incoming and outgoing shipments. Compares identifying information and counts, weights, of incoming and outgoing shipments to verify information against bills of lading, invoices, orders, or other records.
  • Inspect products upon intake and ascertain if product meets Company, Local, and State requirements related to Customs, Health, Sanitation, and COOL mandates.
  • Participate in overall store operations.
  • Ensure accurate inventories- daily and monthly
  • Monitor and analyze key warehouse performance indicators, including error rates, pick rates, inventory turnover, and other warehouse metrics to identify trends, improve efficiency, and drive operational performance.
  • Oversee inventory control processes, including cycle counts, inventory accuracy, and shrink reduction, while ensuring inventory records remain accurate and up to date.
  • Plan and allocate labor and shift schedules based on anticipated inbound and outbound demand, ensuring staffing levels align with operational needs and business volume.
  • Demonstrate proficiency with warehouse management systems (WMS) and barcode tracking technology to maintain accurate inventory records, monitor product movement, and support efficient warehouse operations.
  • Monitor labor costs, including overtime (OT), and implement strategies to control expenses while maintaining appropriate staffing levels and operational efficiency.
  • Develop and maintain a positive work environment that supports employee engagement, development, and retention, while addressing concerns and identifying opportunities to improve team morale and stability.

  • Familiar with material handling equipment with respect to operation and safety

  • Proficiency in the use of Excel, Word, Great Plains and other proprietary applications (Transfer and labor reporting)

Working Conditions:

  • This position requires frequent standing, walking, and occasional pulling, pushing, squatting, reaching, and lifting with a maximum of 60lbs
  • This position requires occasional exposure to cramped or confined spaces, and noise
  • Time split between office work and dock/warehouse area.
  • The temperature in the department is colder than room temperature due to products being highly perishable
  • Due to regional climate, the receiving doc may be colder than room temperature as the dock doors open frequently to accept deliveries
  • The noise in the department may generally be above a normal level due to the HVAC system
