Job description

Job Title: 3rd Shift Event Changeover Crew Member
Location: Van Andel Arena, Grand Rapids, MI
Job Type: Part-Time / 3rd Shift / Event-Based
Job Summary:
We are seeking dependable, hardworking individuals to join our 3rd Shift Event Changeover team. In this role, you will play a key part in transforming the arena between events-including hockey, basketball, volleyball, and concerts-by setting up and breaking down equipment, seating, staging, and flooring. This is a physically demanding, team-oriented job that requires attention to detail, the ability to take direction, and the stamina to stay focused through overnight shifts in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Work as part of a team to transition the arena setup between different events (e.g., converting from a hockey rink to a basketball court, concert stage to volleyball setup, etc.).
  • Lift and move heavy equipment and materials (up to 75 lbs.) safely and efficiently.
  • Operate with speed and precision to meet tight timelines for event readiness.
  • Use basic tools under the guidance of supervisors to assemble and disassemble staging, flooring, seating, and sports-specific setups.
  • Follow instructions and coaching from floor supervisors without hesitation or resistance.
  • Clean and maintain common areas, including concourses, seating sections, and backstage spaces as needed during changeovers.
  • Work in a loud, physically active environment for the duration of the shift (often 8+ hours overnight).
  • Maintain strong attention to detail to ensure setups are completed accurately and according to specifications.
  • Stay on task, follow safety guidelines, and contribute to a positive and respectful team atmosphere.

Requirements:
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 75 lbs. and perform physical labor for extended periods.
  • Comfortable working in a noisy, high-energy environment.
  • Strong work ethic and ability to stay focused and productive during overnight hours.
  • Willingness to take direction and feedback from supervisors and follow through without issue.
  • Basic understanding of tools and mechanical tasks (training provided).
  • Dependable, punctual, and team-oriented with a positive attitude.
  • Must be available to work nights, weekends, and holidays based on the event schedule.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Prior experience in event setup, facilities, or general labor roles is a plus.
  • Familiarity with arena environments or sports venue operations is beneficial.
