Our immersive technology is used globally by patients, educators, and healthcare professionals as an engaging way to understand health and medicine.
About the Role
BioDigital is seeking a Senior Medical Illustrator, Science Lead to drive the scientific vision and execution of both internal and client-facing projects. In this role, you'll lead cross-functional teams-guiding 3D artists, collaborating with engineers and clients, and ensuring scientific accuracy across all deliverables.
You'll translate complex medical concepts into compelling, interactive 3D experiences, balancing scientific rigor with clarity and creativity. This role requires deep expertise in anatomy and life sciences, strong communication skills, and the ability to lead projects from concept through delivery in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
Qualifications
Required
• 4+ years of experience collaborating with medical professionals and communicating
complex health concepts to diverse audiences
• MA/MS from an accredited medical illustration graduate program (or equivalent
experience)
• Client service mindset; proven ability to deliver client projects on time and within budget
• Strong leadership and collaboration skills across multidisciplinary teams
• Self-starter with excellent judgment and the ability to work autonomously
• Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to scientific accuracy
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Expert proficiency in Adobe Photoshop and visual communication techniques
• Demonstrated experience storyboarding for 3D animation
• Solid understanding of 3D modeling and animation principles
• Excitement for AI productivity tools and efficiency improvements

Requirements

• Develop deep expertise in BioDigital's platform and content library to scope projects and
propose effective creative solutions
• Partner with Sales to define project scope, timelines, and budgets aligned with client
goals
• Collaborate with client stakeholders (medical, business, and project teams) to define
requirements and learning objectives
• Lead project planning, including scope of work, timelines, and resource allocation
• Guide and manage day-to-day execution of projects, ensuring quality and efficiency
• Direct 3D artists through clear briefs, storyboards, and ongoing feedback
• Review and ensure scientific accuracy across all visual and written content
• Conduct research on anatomy, conditions, and medical procedures as needed
• Translate complex scientific concepts into intuitive, engaging visual narratives
• Create storyboards and supporting written content for interactive experiences
• Produce custom content using BioDigital's production platform
• Manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining high standards
• Continuously improve workflows, production processes, and product features
