How much do 3d robotics jobs pay per year?

As of Aug 28, 2026, the average yearly pay for 3d robotics in Missouri is $90,048.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $84,400.00 and $95,700.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What is 3d robotics?

3D Robotics refers to the design, development, and operation of robots that utilize three-dimensional movement and spatial awareness. These robots are often used in fields such as drone technology, automation, and manufacturing, where they can move in all three spatial axes (x, y, and z). Professionals in 3D robotics work on creating robots capable of tasks like aerial mapping, surveying, inspection, and automation. The field combines mechanical engineering, electronics, programming, and sometimes artificial intelligence to build innovative robotic systems.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a 3D robotics engineer?

To thrive as a 3D Robotics Engineer, you generally need strong skills in mechanical and electrical engineering, programming, and robotics design, often supported by a degree in engineering or a related field. Familiarity with CAD software, robotics simulation tools, embedded systems, and possibly certifications in robotics or automation are essential. Critical thinking, problem-solving, and effective teamwork set standout professionals apart in this role. These skills are crucial for designing, building, and troubleshooting advanced robotic systems that function reliably in real-world applications.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working in 3d robotics, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in 3D robotics often encounter challenges such as integrating hardware and software components, ensuring precise calibration of sensors, and troubleshooting unexpected behaviors in robotic systems. Collaboration with multidisciplinary teams—including mechanical engineers, software developers, and designers—is essential to address these issues effectively. Staying current with industry advancements and adopting best practices for testing and validation can help overcome technical hurdles and contribute to successful project outcomes.

What is the difference between 3D Robotics vs UAV Pilot?

Aspect3D RoboticsUAV Pilot
Required CertificationsPart 107 Remote Pilot Certificate, drone operation licensesPart 107 Remote Pilot Certificate, drone operation licenses
Work EnvironmentManufacturing, drone design, R&D, field testingField operations, aerial surveys, inspections
Industry UsageDrone manufacturing, technology developmentSurveying, agriculture, cinematography, inspections

Both 3D Robotics and UAV Pilot roles require similar certifications like the Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate. While 3D Robotics focuses on drone design and manufacturing, UAV Pilots primarily operate drones in the field for various applications such as surveying or inspections. The roles often overlap in industry usage, but their core responsibilities differ: one develops drones, the other pilots them in real-world scenarios.

Job description

Sorting Robotics Inc. is looking for a robotics Engineer to design, develop, and deploy robotic solutions to manufacturing companies.

This position is a Mid-level position requiring5-10 years of working experiencein the field of robotics, industrial automation, and mechanical engineering.

Do you love getting your hands dirty building things and solving tough problems with practical pragmatic designs? Are you naturally curious about improving processes and machine capabilities?

Preferred: Must be comfortable with cannabis (preferred you enjoy it and have experienced it)- as we manufacture innovations for the legal cannabis market in the US and Canada.

IDEAL CANDIDATE SKILLS

  • Mechanical and Electrical Engineering B.S. with an M.S. in either field.
  • Experience with robotic systems in either a professional or personal setting.
  • Capability to iteratively design using prototyping tools eg. CAD, laser cutter, 3D printing, CNC machines, Eagle PCB.
  • Knowledge of relevant manufacturing processes for production and prototype. Able to work extended hours and weekends as needed.
  • Be able to take initiative on other roles the company needs to succeed.
  • Working knowledge of low level programming for 6DOF arms or other robotic systems.

As you will be working directly with the founder, expect to learn a lot in a short amount of time. This is a "get your hands dirty" technical leadership position. There will be long hours and days where nothing works; but in the end you will be working on multi-million dollar product in a room full of people that appreciate you.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • You will own the designs from cradle to grave and be responsible for their technical success.
  • Initial concept, design, GD&T drawings, assessment of mass, cost, manufacturing feasibility, function, rapid prototyping using 3D printing, etc.
  • Develop parametric design concepts and production designs Optimize the concepts and designs with analytical and physical modelling/simulation
  • Interface with suppliers for manufacturing feasibility, validation, and other engineering activities as specified for the assigned commodity.
  • Help deliver world-class artisanship, fit/finish and support for successful product launch.
  • Assemble and install machines to customers across the nation. Travel is approximately 1-5% of your time.
  • BS in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics or similar. Possesses technical knowledge and expertise in robotics, automation, or related field.
  • Has previously worked on an R&D team from concept to delivery.
  • Strong working knowledge of fundamental mechanical engineering knowledge.
  • Examples of working on 6DOF or similar cobot arms.
  • Working knowledge of python or similar coding language.
  • Minimum of 5 years full-time working experience.
  • Not currently enrolled in a college or graduate program.
  • Free to work without visa sponsorship.
