Description

SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE

The Standard Products Engineer uses 3D CAD software to produce models and technical drawings of chamber or component system for our standard environmental test chamber line. This role focuses on creating reliable, cost-effective, and manufacturable products that meet customer needs while supporting production, quality, and continuous improvement efforts. This position includes mechanical design, mechanical structure, and project management responsibilities. The Mechanical Engineer works closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Purchasing, Sales, and Service to develop standard products that are easy to build, install, and maintain.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Engineering Design and Oversight

a. Design and model environmental test chambers using Autodesk Inventor, including creation of fabrication drawings and assembly layouts.

b. Design and improve standard environmental test chambers and systems using Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD including cabinet, refrigeration, and electrical schematics and/or drawings.

c. Updates and revises existing models and drawings, as necessary.

d. Create and maintain 3D models, drawings, schematics and bills of materials (BOMs).


2. Design Validation and Improvement

a. Evaluate existing products and recommend improvements for performance, manufacturability, reliability, and serviceability. 

b. Support prototype builds, performs functional testing, and lead root cause analysis for design or production issues. 

c. Identify and implement design improvements for performance, cost reduction, and reliability. 

d. Participate in continuous improvement initiatives that improve safety, quality, delivery, and cost.


3. Documentation

a. Review new job releases from sales, create print packs and release jobs to production.

b. Develop design documentation, work instructions, and engineering standards.


4. Project and Cross-Functional Coordination

a. Collaborate with other departments, including Manufacturing, Procurement, Sales, Service, and Quality, to align design with operational needs. 

b. Assist various departments in problem solving, as necessary.

c. Participate in project planning and design reviews.


5. Process and Standards Development

a. Support product lifecycle management by maintaining engineering change notices (ECNs) and revision control.

b. Ensure designs comply with applicable industry standards, customer specifications, and company quality requirements.


6. Performs additional duties as directed.


Salary: $75,000 to $90,000/year

Requirements

  REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

1. Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related engineering discipline required

2. 3+ years of mechanical design experience in a      manufacturing environment preferred.

3. Experience designing industrial equipment, HVAC systems, refrigeration equipment, or environmental test chambers is a plus.


PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE

1. Experience with configurable or standardized product lines.

2. Knowledge of Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA).

3. Experience with ERP systems and engineering change management.

4. Familiarity with UL, CE, or other applicable product standards.

5. Experience using iLogic or design automation tools is a plus.
