Infrastructure Design Intern

Westwood Professional Services

The Infrastructure Design Intern will join a civil design team supporting site and utility infrastructure improvements for municipalities, counties, and other public-sector clients. Projects range from small utility replacement projects to large-scale civic infrastructure programs involving grading, drainage, and utility coordination. This position offers a direct opportunity to apply civil engineering coursework to real-world public infrastructure projects.


As an Infrastructure Design Intern, the selected candidate will learn to apply industry standards while assisting Senior Engineers in the preparation of plans, and construction documents. The intern will build foundational proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D and other design software used by the infrastructure design team.

Requirements:

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the preparation of grading, drainage, roadway, and utility plans for public infrastructure improvement projects
  • Use Autodesk Civil3D, MicroStation, Open Roads, or other related software to prepare and check working drawings, details, layouts, and estimates
  • Assist with the creation and submission of technical reports, exhibits, and presentations
  • Conduct field reviews and other assessments
  • Performs routine analysis to check the Description accuracy of data and work products
  • Take personal responsibility for the quality of tasks performed
  • Ensures division, regional, and company values, policies, and practices are consistently followed within the survey service
  • Travel to project sites as necessary to gather field data and interface directly with clients and public agency staff
  • Lead by example, display solid judgment, good values, trust, honesty, openness, and professionalism

Required Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited undergraduate Civil Engineering program
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with clients, management, and design team members.
  • Willingness to learn in a flexible, cross-disciplinary work environment.
  • Willingness to attend site visits and perform work in outdoor field conditions on occasion.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Preferred Qualifications:

The following qualifications are preferred but not required for consideration:

  • Relevant industry experience through engineering coursework projects or prior internships in civil site or infrastructure design.
  • Experience with technical design software including AutoCAD Civil 3D, HydroCAD, OpenRoads, or other relevant engineering tools.
