A Brief Overview
Serves as an authoritative resource on supply chain management and maintain financial oversight over pharmaceutical cost. Responsible for all aspects of Pharmacy purchasing including purchasing procurement, inventory management and participation in and compliance with the 340B Federal Drug Discount Programs for all covered entities. Works with all sites across the system to effectively manage dynamic inventory level and minimize the impact of shortages on direct patient care. Provides oversight to the development of Pharmacy Service goals and objectives, policies, procedures, and budgets as they relate to Supply chain.
What you will do
- 340B Audit & Compliance Responsibilities:• Assists in 340B compliance• Maintains 340B Competency by attending 340B Webinars, reading 340B e-mails and attending 340B University and Apexus education courses.• Assures compliance with all regulatory requirements for 340B and GPO Prohibition.• Maintains the integrity of the data which is shared between pharmacy, nursing and physician.• Formularies in respective software to match drugs purchased on appropriate contract.• Completes HRSA Self-assessment monthly.• Participates in actual HRSA audits.• Reviews monthly audits for completion and accuracy; and makes corrections to splitting software.• Verifies that drugs ordered are purchased under the correct contract for hospitals.• Requires extensive detailed review of data collection and analysis to detect deficient controls and to optimize compliance with 340B regulations, and policies and procedures.• Ensures that drugs dispensed through the 340B program are replenished correctly.• Adds NDC's to pharmacy software to drugs in the "unknown item" table of splitting billing software and ensures that new drug is working correctly in the splitting software.• Completes routine audits of drugs of drugs in splitting billing software to verify appropriate patient status.• Identifies drugs that were ordered under the wrong contract and makes corrections to prevent repeat.• Returns mistakes for credit and reorder under the correct contract for 340B software.• Compares daily batch totals downloaded from HMM to total uploaded to split billing software to confirm data transfer is complete• Participates in actual HRSA audit and external independent audit.
- Operates computerized data systems.• Interprets and performs order entry functions in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.• Utilizes computers and related equipment to enter and retrieve information.• Updates NDC numbers in pharmacy software to those purchased on a daily basis• Updates dispensing unit in pharmacy software to match purchased size using conversion table in splitting software.
- Operates computerized data systems.• Interprets and performs order entry functions in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.• Utilizes computers and related equipment to enter and retrieve information.
- Receives, transports and stores necessary pharmacy-related items to and from pharmacy areas as well as to and from other hospital pharmacies and nursing units assigned.
- Assists in inventory control including ordering stock rotation and return of outdated medications.• Maintains perpetual inventory of pharmaceuticals and supplies in the dispensing areas assigned and stores the drugs appropriately.• Replenishs medicine carts for nursing units; restocks nursing units and ancillary departments; checks for outdated, deteriorated or contaminated drugs, overstock, and proper storage products.• Reviews drug usage records to examine for unusual or high usage.• Orders supplies and stocks under proper conditions.
- Maintains a safe and orderly arrangement of pharmaceuticals and supplies in the pharmacy and nursing areas and maintains a clean and neat work area.• Utilizes supplies in a cost-effective manner.
- Maintains confidentiality in matters relating to patient/family, department and hospital information. Adheres to established department and organization policies (i.e. HIPAA, Confidentiality, and Compliance Policies).
- Completes required continuous training and education, including department specific requirements. Responds to problems/opportunities to improve work environment and participates in unit-based performance improvement activities.
- Provides support to pharmacy and other ancillary personnel to provide clinical assistance as needed. Assists in the orientation and supervision of students when they provide patient care, treatment and services as part of their training.
- Provides coverage for relief and absences. Demonstrates flexibility to work night, weekend and holiday to provide continuous pharmacy coverage as required.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as required.
- Coordinates and audits cashiering functions.
- Submits and audits claim submissions to third party payors.
- Instructs/Counsels patients in the use of medications, assistance program, side effects, special precautions, missed doses, etc. when indicated.
- Assesses marketing opportunities for the Medplex Pharmacy.
- Contacts providers concerning prior authorization and medical necessity drugs for third party insurers and nonformulary medication orders.
- Checks patient identification and issues filled medication to outpatients.
- Provides assistance to customers/patient in the purchase of over-the-counter items.
- Maintains knowledge of insurance plans, medication assistance program drugs and guidelines to promptly process prescriptions.
- Responds to customer/patient inquiries.
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited Pharmacy, M.S., and/or Pharm D program Required and
- MBA/MHA Preferred
- HSPAL residency graduate Preferred
- Current Tennessee licensure as a Pharmacist Upon Hire Required and
- Apexus Certified Expert (ACE) if not currently certified must obtain within 6 months of hire. within 180 Days Required
- Experience with pharmacy purchasing and supply chain Required
- Experience with the 340B Program Preferred
