What is a 3 day work week?

A 3 day work week is an employment schedule where an employee works only three days out of the seven-day week, typically with longer shifts to meet required hours. This arrangement is often used in industries requiring round-the-clock staffing, such as healthcare, emergency services, or manufacturing, but is becoming more popular in other sectors seeking to improve work-life balance. Employees working a 3 day work week may have more consecutive days off, which can help reduce burnout and increase job satisfaction. However, the specifics of shift length, pay, and benefits can vary depending on the employer and industry.

What are some common challenges employees face in a 3 day work week position, and how can they manage workload effectively?

One of the main challenges in a 3-day work week role is managing a full workload within a condensed timeframe. Employees often need strong time-management and organizational skills to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines efficiently. Effective communication with team members is also crucial to ensure projects stay on track, especially when collaborating across different schedules. Utilizing productivity tools and setting clear goals for each workday can help professionals succeed in this flexible arrangement.

Job description

Description
Not many people can say they played a role in making parts for spaceships, airplanes, medical devices such as pacemakers, and so much more! You can be one of the few as a Furnace Operator at Solar Atmospheres in Greenville, SC! Our Furnace Operators carry out vacuum heat treating and brazing services to some of the most notable companies out there.
If you're new to heat treating you'll start as a Shop Floor Technician, helping the Operators with general labor, setting up products for furnaces, etc. After training (typically 6+ months), you'll learn the ropes from your tenured co-workers on how to provide heat-treating services of the highest possible quality.
Since we are a 24/7 operation to meet our customers' needs, we are looking to add a team member to the following shifts:
Weekday Nights: Tuesday-Friday (with one day off - TBD - resulting in a 3-day workweek) from 7pm-7:30am.
Weekday Days: Tuesday-Friday (with one day off - TBD - resulting in a 3-day workweek) from 7am-7:30pm.
You may be thinking, "But that's only 36 hours of pay a week!" That is true but Solar Atmospheres pays their employees overtime after 8 hours a day, so with overtime factored in, you are still paid like you worked 40 hours!
What you'll do
You probably don't like being micromanaged which is good because we don't like to micromanage. After initial training and you feel comfortable moving into a Furnace Operator role, you'll work independently, owning multiple ongoing projects from start to finish varying tasks throughout the day. While every day might be a little different, you can expect to do the following:
  • Planning and changing out furnace loads and packing all orders
  • Operating furnaces and other shop equipment once trained
  • Maintaining clean and orderly work areas (we pride ourselves on safety and cleanliness)
  • Follow project instructions and complete all customer labeling and packaging requirements
  • Configure and monitor settings on programs, recorders, and vacuum gauges
  • Work efficiently while ensuring company quality standards are maintained
  • Utilize a forklift and overhead crane as needed

What you need to thrive in this role
Whether you have experience or not, with the right attitude, attention to detail, and some basic math skills, all duties can be trained with room for growth. Some other qualifications that will bring success to the role are:
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Basic math skills will serve you very well
  • Reliable and organized with the ability to multitask and prioritize
  • Comfortability working in a fast-paced environment moving around consistently throughout the day
  • Ability to lift, bend, reach, and stand for extended periods of time
  • Experience in manufacturing, warehousing, or heat treating is a plus but willing to train!
  • Forklift and Overhead Crane experience/licensure a plus

About us
The mission of Solar Atmospheres is to add significant value to our customer's operations by thermally treating parts, principally in a vacuum environment, with an unwavering commitment to honesty in all relationships. We will strive to fulfill this mission while:
  • Performing our work with an emphasis on quality and responsiveness
  • Operating with an awareness and appreciation of the value of our customer's parts while in our care
  • Forever looking "forward" in the area of technical capabilities
  • Demonstrating a willingness to "accept the challenge"
  • Providing and maintaining a work environment that is safe, clean and reflects our respect for human dignity
  • Providing our employees with an opportunity for personal growth, challenge and reward
  • Maintaining a workplace that is environmentally friendly
  • Sustaining long-term growth and profitability

What we offer you
We care about our employee's well-being and show it by providing the following:
  • Overtime After 8 hours A Day
  • Medical, Dental, and Vision
  • Short & Long-Term Disability
  • Life & AD&D Insurance
  • 401K with Company Match
  • Paid Time Off
  • Employee Assistance Program
  • Employee Referral Program
  • Monthly Bonus Program

Thank you for considering us as a potential employer!
At Solar Atmospheres, we continually celebrate the diverse community different individuals cultivate. As an equal-opportunity employer, we stay true to that by ensuring that our place can be anyone's place.
