Job description

1st Shift Machine Operator – Entry Level
Responsibilities
  • Ability to produce quality parts that meet company standards.
  • Ability to machine piston rings to proper dimensions to tolerance in the ten-thousandths.
  • Operate machinery following traveler specifications.
  • Perform various machining operations such as cutting, sanding, drilling, grinding, and turning.
  • Inspect finished products using precision measuring tools such as manual micrometers and calipers.
  • Make minor adjustments to machine(s) to ensure quality standards are being met.
  • Notify subject matter expert, lead, supervisor or quality team member to conduct a first piece check.
  • Perform a first piece inspection, and complete in-process inspections as needed.
  • Complete a pre-start inspection of the machine to ensure machine meets production standards.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and wear protective gear while on the shop floor.
  • Maintain accurate records of materials used and processes followed during production.
  • Accurate tracking of productivity using production software by clocking in and out of jobs.
  • Maintain a clean and safe workplace in accordance with company policies.
  • Ensure daily cell production goals are met.
  • Ensuring the proper flow of rings and parts from operation to operation.
  • Flex to other open machines as needed to meet production demands.
  • Ability to follow and understand company policies and core values.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Experience and Skill Required
  • Ability to read, comprehend and follow basic written or oral instructions.
  • Knowledge of machining processes used in the manufacturing of piston rings preferred.
  • Knowledge of equipment utilized in the machining of piston rings preferred.
  • Knowledge of tooling utilized in the machining of piston rings preferred.
  • Knowledge of how to read a traveler.
  • Knowledge of how to use a manual micrometer, calipers, and hand tools (wrench, screwdriver, hammer, etc.)
  • Ability to pass a basic math test with the ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide and use decimal points to ten-thousandths.
  • Able to effectively communicate and work in a team environment.
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
Physical Requirements
  • A 40+ hour work week, 10-hour shifts (Monday through Thursday).
  • Overtime may be required as needed to meet production demands, including working Fridays and/or Saturdays.
  • Prolonged periods of standing, sitting, walking, bending, and lifting.
  • Good manual hand dexterity.
  • Must be able to regularly lift up to 50 pounds at a time, including anything over 50 pounds with assistance (team lift).
