Job Title: Housekeeper – 2nd Shift (Hospital Environment)

Job Description

This role provides essential housekeeping services in a hospital environment on the 2nd shift. You help maintain a clean, safe, and orderly setting for patients, visitors, and staff by cleaning patient rooms and common areas, changing linens, and sanitizing surfaces. The position requires consistent attention to detail, strong customer service, and the ability to walk throughout a large facility while working efficiently on a set number of rooms each shift.

Responsibilities

  • Perform light cleaning duties to maintain patient rooms, halls, and other areas in a clean, safe, and orderly condition.
  • Provide quality customer service by giving one-on-one attention to detail and responding courteously to patients, visitors, and staff.
  • Sweep, scrub, mop, and polish floors in patient rooms and common areas.
  • Vacuum carpets, rugs, and draperies to maintain a neat and hygienic environment.
  • Shampoo carpets, rugs, and upholstery as needed to ensure cleanliness and appearance.
  • Dust and polish furniture and fittings to keep surfaces free of dust and debris.
  • Clean metal fixtures and fittings to maintain a sanitary and polished appearance.
  • Empty and clean trash containers, and dispose of waste in a sanitary and compliant manner.
  • Clean wash basins, mirrors, tubs, and glass surfaces to hospital standards.
  • Make beds and change linens as required, ensuring fresh and properly made beds for patients.
  • Realign furniture and amenities in patient rooms according to prescribed layouts.
  • Sanitize patient rooms thoroughly, including high-touch surfaces, to support infection control.
  • Clean 8–12 patient rooms per shift, spending approximately 30 minutes per room while maintaining quality standards.
  • Respond promptly to guest and patient queries and requests related to housekeeping needs.
  • Respond to calls for housekeeping issues such as spills, broken glass, or other immediate cleaning needs.
  • Support floor care activities as needed, including mopping, sweeping, and other floor technician tasks.
  • Coordinate with food service and environmental services teams as needed to support overall cleanliness and service.
  • Contribute to team efforts by collaborating with fellow associates and demonstrating professionalism at all times.
  • Perform other related housekeeping duties as assigned to support hospital operations.

Essential Skills

  • Experience with housekeeping, cleaning, janitorial, custodial, or environmental services duties.
  • Ability to perform sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, scrubbing, polishing, and general floor care tasks.
  • Demonstrated skill in sanitizing rooms, surfaces, and equipment to maintain a hygienic environment.
  • Ability to make beds and change bedding efficiently and accurately.
  • Strong customer service skills and comfort working around patients, visitors, and staff in a hospital environment.
  • Capability to walk long distances throughout a large hospital for the duration of the shift.
  • Ability to manage time effectively, including cleaning approximately 8–12 rooms per shift within about 30 minutes per room.
  • Willingness and availability to work the 2nd shift (3:00 p.m.–11:30 p.m.) Monday through Friday and every other weekend.
  • Reliability in following schedules that include two weekends per month.
  • Professionalism in interactions with customers, fellow associates, and other departments.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience working in a hospital, healthcare facility, hotel, or similar environment is helpful.
  • Environmental services (EVS), floor technician work, or food service support is an advantage.
  • Flexibility to work either full-time or part-time, depending on scheduling needs.
  • Comfort adjusting to rotating schedules where one weekend is scheduled off within a two-week period.
  • Ability to adapt to different room layouts and cleaning requirements across various hospital units.

Why Work Here?

You join a team that values cleanliness, safety, and patient comfort as core parts of quality care. Scheduling options offer a mix of weekday and weekend time off, and there is flexibility for part-time arrangements when appropriate. Leadership respects the importance of weekends and strives to balance operational needs with associates’ personal time. You work in a professional, team-oriented environment where your contribution directly supports the well-being of patients and their families.

Work Environment

This position is based in a hospital setting, working primarily on patient rooms throughout the entire shift. You work the 2nd shift from 3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, and you will work two weekends per month, with scheduling designed so that you have at least one weekend off in each two-week period. There is potential flexibility for part-time arrangements and for associates who prefer to work both weekends in exchange for additional weekdays off. The hospital is large, and you can expect to walk significant distances between rooms and units. You will use standard housekeeping and janitorial equipment and supplies, including mops, brooms, vacuums, floor polishers, and cleaning and sanitizing agents, while following hospital cleanliness and safety standards. Dress typically aligns with professional housekeeping or environmental services attire appropriate for a healthcare environment, with any required protective equipment provided according to hospital policy
