Job description

NEEDED: Pharmacist

LOCATION: Sheridan, OR 97378

SCHEDULE: Monday through Friday, normally between the hours of 6:00am-8:00pm, not exceeding, forty (40) hours per week (80 hours per two weeks).

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must possess an unencumbered license to practice pharmacy in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
  • Must be Basic Life Support Certified in CPR, in accordance with the American Red Cross or the American Heart Association.
  • Must provide verification of credentials, including, but not limited to, resume, education, current license and/or certification, competency, continuing education,
  • Must provide two professional written references from practice in the profession within the last five years.
  • National Practitioner Data Bank Verification

JOB DUTIES:

  • Interpreting medical/dental staff prescription orders. These orders may be the traditional physical prescription or orders taken from the entries of the patient medical file
  • Reading and interpreting prescriptions and medication orders written by medical staff, selection and retrieval of medications of correct strength and dosage from prescribed, transcribing prescription data to labels using typewriters or computer systems, completing final pharmacist verification of filled medications
  • Distribute medication and provide patient education
  • Administer directly observed therapy at pill line.
  • Delegation and supervision of appropriate tasks to the medication/pharmacy technician or medical assistant
  • Ordering, stocking, storing, and dispensing of prescription and non-prescription medications while demonstrating knowledge of the budgetary guidelines and BOP Formulary constraints.
  • Processing, filling, verifying prescriptions ordered by providers
  • Maintain pharmacy areas in a clean and orderly fashion consistent with departmental safety and sanitation guidelines.
  • Maintaining stock of up-to-date medications (checking for outdates per policy) in the main pharmacy, satellite camp, crash carts, emergency bags, and Automated Dispensing Systems.
  • Maintaining stock of forms as needed and updating Pill Line/Restricted Medication cards as well as filing Medication Administration Records into the Medical Record.
  • Preparing unit dose or pre-packaged medications.
  • Complete and maintain competency as indicated by the ability to complete the Pharmacy Competency Module while maintaining knowledge of BOP Formulary and any changes to this document.
  • Maintain the narcotics count and the needle and syringe inventories.
  • Maintain and re-stock adequate supplies for the “Night Stock” cabinet and perform audits of the “Night Stock” or Automated Dispensing System.
  • Will restock (or prepare medications for restocking) the electronic medication cabinet devices (Pyxis or OmniCell) and automated filling machinery
  • Possess a working knowledge and maintain technical computer skills pertaining to pharmacy issues.
  • Must participate in Improving Organizational Performance Data and Quality Assurance Activities as directed by the HSA or delegee.
  • Prepare recommended supply lists to order pharmaceuticals, maintain the pharmacy areas in a clean and orderly fashion, maintain stock of appropriate forms utilized in the pharmacy department, and shall, in the absence of the Chief Pharmacist, maintain the Pharmacy operation, within guidelines governing the duties of Pharmacists.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Chief Pharmacist or HSA or COR
  • Perform minor clerical duties, such as use of BOP electronic medical record, computer documentation and scheduling, scanning documents, filing, typing, callouts, institutional memorandums, answering phones, scheduling patients, and maintaining stock records.
