Job description

Anesthesiologist – Work 13 or 26 Weeks Annually

Northern Maine | Permanent Position | H-1B Candidates Considered

What could you do with 26—or even 39—weeks away from scheduled clinical service each year?

HealthYes Staffing Network is recruiting an Anesthesiologist for a hospital-employed position in Northern Maine offering two distinctive block-scheduling options. The opportunity is designed for a physician who values concentrated work periods, meaningful time away from the hospital, and a practice that primarily involves clinical leadership and CRNA supervision.

Choose the Schedule That Fits Your Life

Physicians may be considered for either of the following rotations:

  • Two weeks on and two weeks off: approximately 26 working weeks annually with 1:2 call
  • One week on and three weeks off: approximately 13 working weeks annually with 1:3 call

The hospital will review the daily schedule, call responsibilities, coverage expectations, and transition between rotations during the interview process.

The Anesthesia Practice

The department currently includes two Anesthesiologists and five CRNAs. The hospital has five operating rooms, with four generally in use, and completes approximately 2,500 cases annually.

The practice is approximately:

  • 90% CRNA supervision and medical direction
  • 10% personally performed anesthesia care

This structure allows the incoming physician to remain clinically involved while serving as a resource and leader for an experienced anesthesia team.

Types of Cases

The surgical program includes a balanced range of cases:

  • General Surgery
  • Urology
  • Ophthalmology
  • ENT
  • Orthopedics
  • Obstetrics and Gynecology
  • Limited Thoracic Surgery
  • Additional hospital-based procedures

Orthopedic cases represent approximately 30% of annual volume, while General Surgery, Urology, Ophthalmology, and ENT collectively account for approximately 50%.

What You’ll Do

The Anesthesiologist will evaluate patients before surgery, determine the appropriate anesthesia plan, provide or direct anesthesia services, manage perioperative risk, and support safe recovery following procedures.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Supervising and medically directing CRNAs
  • Providing general, regional, and monitored anesthesia care
  • Managing difficult airways and anesthesia-related emergencies
  • Participating in the applicable call rotation
  • Collaborating with surgeons, nurses, and other hospital departments
  • Supporting departmental quality and patient-safety initiatives
  • Maintaining complete and timely clinical documentation

Candidate Profile

The hospital is seeking an MD or DO who has completed an accredited Anesthesiology residency and is board-certified or board-eligible in Anesthesiology.

Candidates must be eligible for an unrestricted Maine medical license and hospital privileges. The organization welcomes physicians who completed appropriate training through U.S. allopathic, osteopathic, military, or international medical pathways.

H-1B candidates may be considered.

Compensation and Support

The selected physician will receive a competitive hospital-employed compensation package accompanied by:

  • Comprehensive medical benefits, with the hospital covering the majority of health-insurance premiums
  • Employer-paid malpractice coverage
  • Relocation assistance
  • Educational loan-repayment support when applicable
  • Annual allowance for licenses, professional dues, and subscriptions
  • CME reimbursement of up to $2,500 per year

Final compensation, call pay, benefit eligibility, and contractual terms will be reviewed directly with qualified candidates.

A Different Pace of Life

Northern Maine offers affordable housing, minimal traffic, outdoor recreation, and the kind of community where physicians remain visible and valued. This opportunity may be especially attractive to someone who wants substantial scheduled time away from work without stepping away from a meaningful hospital-based practice.

Apply confidentially through HealthYes Staffing Network.
