Grandview, Ohio

Job Description

Join a long-established industrial manufacturing organization as a Welder, focusing primarily on MIG welding of structural and carbon steel components used in large-scale sugar and flour processing equipment for major commercial bakeries. In this role, you work on a variety of steel fabrication projects and share responsibilities for operating manual submerged arc welding (SAW) equipment and drill presses to support the production of high-quality processing systems.

Responsibilities

  • Perform high-quality MIG welding on structural steel and carbon steel components, ensuring strong, clean, and consistent welds that meet production and safety standards.
  • Interpret and work from blueprints, diagrams, and technical drawings to understand dimensions, tolerances, and fabrication requirements for each project.
  • Accurately measure materials and components using a tape measure and other standard measurement tools to prepare workpieces for welding and fabrication.
  • Assist with general fabrication tasks, including cutting, fitting, and preparing steel components using tools such as metal band saws and other shop equipment.

Essential Skills

  • 1-3 years of experience performing MIG welding on structural steel and carbon steel in a manufacturing or fabrication environment.
  • Proficiency in MIG welding techniques with the ability to produce strong, consistent, and visually acceptable welds.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, and technical drawings to determine job requirements and specifications.
  • Strong measurement skills, including accurate use of a tape measure and basic hand tools to verify dimensions and tolerances.
  • 1-3 years of experience operating drill presses, ideally manual drill presses, with the ability to safely and accurately drill holes in steel components.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience operating forklifts in a manufacturing or warehouse environment.
  • Previous fabrication experience, including working with aluminum, stainless steel, or other metals.
  • Completion of trade school or technical training in welding, fabrication, or a related industrial discipline.
  • Military service or farm work, demonstrating strong work ethic, mechanical aptitude, and hands-on skills.
  • Experience using a metal band saw and other common fabrication shop tools.
  • Ability to adapt to different jobs and projects, learning new equipment and processes as needed.

Why Work Here?

You join a stable organization with a long history and strong reputation in industrial manufacturing, offering a consistent workload and reliable operations. The schedule supports work-life balance with daytime hours, a four-day core workweek, and shorter Fridays, helping you enjoy predictable time outside of work. The facility is centrally located in Columbus, making commuting convenient from many areas. You work in a quiet, professional environment where safety, cleanliness, and respect are valued, and where your technical skills and craftsmanship directly contribute to the success of large-scale projects.

Work Environment

The role is based in a manufacturing facility that is relatively clean, with some steel scrap present on the floor as part of normal fabrication activity. The atmosphere is quiet and focused, allowing you to concentrate on precise welding and fabrication work. The workplace operates as a smoke-free environment, so team members must be comfortable working without tobacco use on-site. You work primarily on first shift, from 6:00 AM to 4:30 PM Monday through Thursday, with some Fridays scheduled from 6:00 AM to 12:00 PM, providing a structured and predictable daytime schedule. You use industrial welding and fabrication equipment, including MIG welders, SAW equipment, manual drill presses, metal band saws, and standard measurement tools, while following established safety and housekeeping practices.
