Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced Oncology RN for a Med/Surg Tele unit requiring an active OH or compact RN license and 2 years of current acute care med/surg tele experience.
Details
- Cancer hospital setting on a Med/Surg Tele oncology unit
- Cares for adult and geriatric patients with cancers including endometrial, bladder, renal, ovarian, and cervical cancers
- Unit provides chemotherapy, clinical trials, brachytherapy, and CBI treatments
- 12-hour Day/Night rotating shifts, with schedules reviewed every 4-week period based on staffing needs
- Staffing ratio target of 1:4, may be adjusted up to 1:5 based on unit needs
- Weekend scheduling is variable based on unit needs
- No set or blocked scheduling requests permitted
- Uses Epic charting system
Requirements
- Active OH or compact RN license required in hand at time of consideration
- Minimum 2 years of current acute care Med/Surg Tele nursing experience within the last 12 months
- Current BLS certification required
- Skilled in telemetry monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation, and emergency response
- Experience with chemotherapy administration and monitoring preferred
- Familiarity with oncology-specific procedures such as brachytherapy preferred
- ONS Chemotherapy certification preferred
- Experience with PCA, surgical drains, and tracheostomy care preferred
- Education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited nursing program
- 2 professional references required, with at least one from a manager, director, or supervisor; a Charge RN may serve as the second reference; coworker references not accepted
Additional Information
- Provide direct patient care to oncology patients, ensuring physical and emotional well-being
- Administer chemotherapy and monitor for adverse reactions
- Participate in clinical trials, including data collection and documentation
- Perform specialized procedures such as brachytherapy and neobladder care
- Implement infection prevention protocols and support fall prevention initiatives
- Monitor telemetry and respond to changes in patient condition, collaborating with rapid response teams as needed
- Manage feeding tubes, IV therapy, blood product administration, and central line care
- Collaborate closely with interdisciplinary care teams
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Locals accepted at the same rate
- RTO must be submitted with the application and built into the contract, limited to 7 days or less
- Former employees eligible to return as travelers after 6 months away from the facility
- Current employees of the health system are ineligible for traveler positions
- Candidates must complete Ohio fingerprinting promptly after signing the contract due to strict compliance timelines
